Precautions and Practices for Effective Gua Sha: 4 Key Considerations

November 28, 2023

Gua sha is a method that most people use to relieve fatigue and promote physical health. However, if certain precautions are not taken after gua sha, it can have the opposite effect. Here are four things to keep in mind:

1. Gua sha opens up the sweat pores and expels evil qi, which consumes some of the body's fluids. Therefore, after gua sha, drink two cups of warm water and rest for at least one hour.

2. Avoid blowing fans or any other windy objects after gua sha, as this may allow evil wind to enter the body through the dilated pores.

3. After gua sha, it is important to avoid exposure to cold wind. Wait until the skin pores have closed and returned to their original state before taking a bath, usually around 12 hours.

4. For patients with complex and critical conditions, gua sha treatment should be accompanied by other treatments such as medication to avoid delaying the recovery process.
