Recovering from Exhaustion: Tips for Staying Up All Night

October 21, 2023

Anyone who has stayed up all night knows the toll it takes on the body. "Stay up all night, take three days to recover." How can we recover from exhaustion as quickly as possible? How can those who frequently stay up all night take care of themselves?

Eat something warm when staying up all night

Eat something warm before staying up all night, preferably a bowl of hot porridge. This can nourish the qi, warm the stomach, and prevent the cold. Avoid eating foods that are difficult to digest, as it can cause a heavy burden on the intestines and stomach, leading to lack of oxygen in the brain and drowsiness. Additionally, drink plenty of water to promote blood circulation and increase vitality.

Avoid taking a nap in the middle

No matter how tired you are from staying up all night, if you need to work all night, it's best not to take a nap in the middle. Just like a machine, suddenly turning on and off can be hard on the body. When feeling tired, you can drink a beverage to refresh yourself - it's best to choose a hot beverage, and not too strong, to avoid harming the stomach.

Take a hot shower before resting

After working the night shift, many people immediately lie down and sleep until it's dark outside. However, it's actually better to take a hot shower first, relax the body and mind, and then go to sleep for better recovery. It is generally recommended to sleep for 3-6 hours, to avoid sleeping too much and affecting the normal routine of the next day, leading to a vicious cycle.

If you want to maintain fair skin, you can try using lemon or white vinegar for bathing. Before bathing, you can cut open a lemon, squeeze the juice, and add some cold water and sugar to drink. Soak the lemon peel in the water for washing your face and body.

When the body is still moist after bathing, rub an appropriate amount of salt on the aging skin. This can remove dead skin cells (gently rub, otherwise it may damage the skin) and promote blood circulation.

Before going to bed, place a smooth silk scarf on the pillow to keep your hair neat and maintain your hairstyle.

Wash your face with alternating hot and cold water

1. After waking up, massage the area around your eyes in a clockwise direction with both hands for about 5 minutes. This can promote blood circulation around the eyes and prevent or cover up dark circles.

2. When washing your face, alternate between cold and hot water to stimulate blood circulation on the face. When applying skincare products, massage your face for 5 minutes.

3. Apply ice cubes wrapped in gauze on the eyelids to reduce swelling. Cold compress with astringent water is also effective.

Stay away from coffee and strong tea

Caffeine can indeed make people feel energized, but it may not necessarily improve work efficiency, or it may only have a short-term effect. In addition, caffeine can deplete the body's vitamin B, which is related to coordination between the nerves and muscles. People who lack vitamin B are already more prone to fatigue, and this can lead to a vicious cycle.

Staring at screens for too long when staying up all night can cause symptoms such as dry eyes, physical fatigue, and even headaches and neck pain. It is recommended to consume foods rich in vitamin A and vitamin B. Carrot and pig liver soup, goji berry and sheep liver soup are good choices.

Fruits and vegetables are powerful weapons against acne

After staying up all night, acne and blackheads often take the opportunity to appear on the face. Here are six fruit and vegetable recipes that are beneficial for skin health and beauty:

1. Cut an appropriate amount of apples, carrots, spinach, and celery into small pieces. Add milk, honey, and a few ice cubes, and use a juicer to make a fruit and vegetable juice.

2. Fresh juice made from two kiwis, four oranges, and one lemon, rich in vitamin C for energy replenishment and beauty.

3. Squeeze the juice from three grapefruits, mash a bunch of grapes to make grape juice, and add a small amount of honey for a sweet and sour taste.

4. Blend one fresh cucumber, 0.5 liters of soy milk, and three water chestnuts together, and drink it after blending. It can relieve fatigue and quench thirst.

5. Blend bananas, papaya, and yogurt together for a nutritious and energy-boosting drink.

6. Cook 50 grams of water chestnut powder, one egg, and a small amount of rock sugar together, and consume it after it's cooked. It can nourish yin, tonify the kidneys, and promote beauty.

Don't exhaust yourself mentally while working physically

Some people complain incessantly as soon as they start their night shift, and their temper often becomes irritable after finishing the night shift. In fact, a negative mindset has a greater impact on health than staying up all night itself. When working the night shift, it is also a form of self-care to not let the liver fire rage. For example, when doctors see patients sleeping soundly under their "supervision", they feel relieved; when they see patients being rescued from the brink of death, they feel genuinely happy. Working the body without working the mind, maintaining a youthful mindset, is the best remedy against aging.
