What to do about food poisoning

April 30, 2023
There are many causes of food poisoning, such as poisoning caused by eating large amounts of live bacteria or food containing bacterial toxins, food poisoning caused by accidental consumption or improper handling of toxic food, using cookware containing metal compounds such as lead, zinc, arsenic and copper, and abusing synthetic food coloring and food additives, etc. So what about food poisoning?

Vomiting

If you have eaten poisonous food within 1-2 hours, you can use emetic methods to vomit out the food. The main methods of inducing vomiting are as follows. 1. Immediately take 20 grams of table salt, add 200 ml of boiling water and drink it at once after cooling. 2, if you do not vomit after drinking salt water, you can also use 100 lessons of fresh ginger crushed juice, with 200 ml of warm water. 3, if you eat is spoiled meat, then you can take ten drops of water to prompt rapid vomiting. 4, soon after poisoning, patients without obvious vomiting can also use fingers, goose feathers, chopsticks, etc. to stimulate the root of the tongue to trigger vomiting, but also drink a lot of warm water, repeatedly self-induced vomiting to reduce the absorption of toxins.

Drainage

If the patient has eaten the poisoned food for more than 2-3 hours and is in good spirits, he can take laxatives to induce the food to be excreted as soon as possible. Generally, 30 lessons of rhubarb is used and taken in one decoction. Elderly patients who are in good health can also use tomato juice 15 grams, decocted at once, for the purpose of inducing excretion.

Seek medical attention as soon as possible

If the symptoms still do not improve after the above first aid, or if the poisoning is more serious, the patient should be sent to hospital for treatment as soon as possible. During the treatment process, the patient should be given good care, try to make him quiet, avoid mental tension, pay attention to rest, prevent from getting cold, and at the same time, supplement with sufficient amount of salt boiled water.

Notes on detoxification of food poisoning

1. People with food poisoning will have vomiting and diarrhea symptoms, which can easily cause a large loss of body fluids and cause a variety of complications and symptoms that directly threaten the life of the patient. They should drink a lot of water, which can promote the elimination of pathogenic bacteria and produced enterotoxins and reduce the symptoms of poisoning. 2. Using cool boiled water and other clear liquids can replenish the electrolytes lost due to vomiting and diarrhea, such as potassium, sodium and glucose. Do not stop the diarrhea first, let the toxins in the body be eliminated and then send to the doctor for treatment. 3. Patients with severe diarrhea can be given an antidepressant to stop diarrhea in appropriate amounts. If there is no sign of relief, or even obvious dehydration, cold extremities, increased diarrhea and abdominal pain, pallor, blurred consciousness, babbling, convulsions, or even shock, they should be sent to the doctor immediately to avoid life-threatening illnesses. 4. It should be noted that vomiting and diarrhea are the manifestation of the defense function of the muscles, which can discharge a certain amount of intestinal toxins released by pathogenic bacteria, so antidiarrheal drugs should not be used immediately, especially for patients with high fever, toxemia, mucopurulent stools, which should be avoided to avoid aggravating the symptoms of poisoning. 5. If the vomit is a more clarified liquid after inducing vomiting with warm water, you can drink an appropriate amount of milk to protect the gastric mucosa; if bloody liquid is found in the vomit, it means that there may be bleeding from the digestive tract or throat, and it is best to stop inducing vomiting temporarily. 6. Determining the poisoning substance is important for treatment, so after food poisoning occurs, save samples of the food that caused the poisoning and give them to the doctor for testing. 7. When the patient has severe symptoms of poisoning, it is important to note that the patient should remain in a lateral position in order to prevent the vomit from blocking the airway and causing suffocation; the patient should not drink or eat during the vomiting process, but hydrate immediately after the vomiting stops; if the abdominal pain is severe, the patient can adopt a supine position and bend both knees to help relieve abdominal muscle tension.
