What are the bad effects of contacts

April 8, 2023
Nowadays, many fashionable young men and women are choosing to wear contacts in order to be beautiful, which is no excuse, but because the types, styles and quality of contacts vary, if worn improperly, can cause damage to the eyes, what is the danger of contacts to the eyes?

Corneal staining

The lenses of contacts contain pigment and are in direct contact with the eye; some poor quality, counterfeit contacts have pigment directly printed on the surface of the lens, and the chemical composition of the pigment is unapproved and the process is crude, causing greater damage to the eye and long-term wear and tear of the lens, which can easily lose color and lead to corneal staining. So be sure to buy contacts produced by regular manufacturers.

Corneal hypoxia

The corneal oxygen supply of our eyes is 80% taken from the air, contacts are thicker than ordinary contact lenses, poor ventilation, which can affect the breathing of the cornea, leading to lack of oxygen in the eyes and can not be metabolized properly, thus reducing resistance. This can cause eye redness, discomfort, corneal neovascularization and other complications that affect the health of the cornea over time. It is recommended that you select contacts with lenses that have high oxygen permeability.

Dry eyes

Some traditional contacts have a low water content due to pigmentation on the lens surface and poor oxygen permeability, which can lead to poor wetting of the lens and dry eyes, visual fatigue, sore eyes, foreign body sensation, dryness, burning eyes and even blurred vision. It is recommended to choose lenses with high oxygen permeability and short-cycle replacement in order to protect eye comfort and health.

Narrowing the field of vision

Many businesses, in order to create an exaggerated color effect, the use of smaller optical area, the part of the dye, generally poor light transmission, after wearing will narrow the field of vision of the eye. There is a feeling of "peeping into the tube", this state is very unsafe for driving and working. It is recommended to consider lenses with a larger optical area when choosing.

Corneal inflammation

The chemical composition of contacts can easily interfere with the normal metabolism of the cornea and tears, and may cause eye congestion and inflammation due to poor wearing habits, eye sensitivity, and weather. They should not be worn for more than eight hours a day, and you should wash your hands before wearing them and before removing them.

Corneal damage

Contacts and contact lenses can cause corneal edema and mechanical damage to the cornea if the lenses are not of good quality or if they are not properly handled when removing the glasses.

Not suitable to wear people

1, underage should not wear: because the eye axis of minors has not yet been shaped, wearing contacts are likely to produce side effects on the normal physiological metabolic disorders of the eye, affecting vision. 2, over 40 years old should not wear: because with age, the eye will again produce physiological changes, wearing contacts will affect the visual function. 3, traffic police, drivers should not wear: because these people's eyes are exposed to long-term pollution environment, more likely to cause eye infections.

Tips

When buying contacts, it is recommended to go to an eye hospital or regular chain of opticians to do routine checks to confirm that there is no trachoma, conjunctivitis and other eye diseases before you can buy. Do not purchase contacts privately if you have glaucoma, laser surgery within 3 years, corneal transplants, or if your doctor has confirmed that you cannot use contact lenses.
