April 7, 2023
Recently, there are news reports on the street with cows selling fresh milk is very popular, people think that such milk is natural, no additives, and milking right in front of their eyes, feel safe and secure, but scientific research shows that unsterilized milk is more likely to cause disease outbreaks and increase the number of hospitalizations...

What is fresh milk

Is it infected with germs? For both sides of the fresh milk controversy, this is a routine discussion. Fresh milk is milk that has not been sterilized by Pasteurization, which is a centuries-old method of heating to destroy harmful bacteria lurking in fresh milk.

The Fresh Milk Debate

Thirty states in the United States allow consumers to purchase fresh milk. Proponents of fresh milk claim that its ingredients are better for health and taste better, while opponents argue that more people are getting sick from the bacteria in fresh milk and that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention believe people should avoid fresh milk.

Fresh milk causes bacterial infections

A new study shows that between 2010 and 2012, 5% of known cases of foodborne illness in the United States came from fresh milk. An outbreak is defined as two or more similar cases of illness originating from ingestion of the same food. The study comes from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's journal, Surfacing Disease Infections.

Fresh Milk Pathogenic Bacteria

Microorganisms in fresh milk include Salmonella, Escherichia coli, Campylobacter jejuni and Listeria monocytogenes - from 1993 to 2006, there were an average of three outbreaks of infection per year. But from 2007 to 2012, the latest study found that the average number of infections increased to 13 per day.

The dangers of fresh milk

Over a five-year period, fresh milk consumption caused 979 cases of infection and hospitalized 73 people. In addition, 80 percent of these outbreaks came from states where it is legal to sell fresh milk. Therefore, we would like to remind all fresh milk buyers to be cautious, and fresh milk drinkers to take it more seriously.
