March 30, 2023
Blood donation is an infinite honorable thing, although a passion, but it is a matter of health, for the blood donation before and after the precautions, we still need to understand first.

Precautions before donating blood

1. Adjust your mood before donating blood, avoid tension, get enough sleep and be full of energy, and avoid straining. 2. Don't eat too much fatty food such as fatty meat, chicken, doughnuts, fried, etc. for dinner on the first day before blood donation and breakfast on the day of blood donation because if you eat too much fat, part of it will be absorbed by the blood and the blood donated may contain too much fat and become lipid blood. Do not drink alcohol or smoke, but do not donate blood on an empty stomach. You can eat some vegetarian food, such as bread, steamed buns and rice. 3. If you have a fever, cough, cold or diarrhea before donating blood, you should not donate blood, and women should not donate blood when they are menstruating. 4. Before donating blood, you can take a shower to keep clean and hygienic, especially the part of your arm where blood is drawn. 5. Take care to prepare your documents (ID card) before donating blood.

Precautions during blood donation

Don't be nervous and anxious during blood donation, don't keep staring at the blood bag (to avoid blood fainting), blood collection is usually finished in 3~5 minutes; after pulling out the needle, listen to the nurse's instructions, press the eye of the needle with a cotton ball for more than 5 minutes until there is no blood spillage before throwing away the cotton ball, and rest for 15 minutes to make sure there is no discomfort before leaving, when getting up, it is advisable to move slowly.

Precautions after blood donation

1. After donating blood, it is recommended that the eye of the needle should not be exposed to water for 3 days to avoid unnecessary infection. 2. After blood donation, it takes 8 to 24 hours for the blood volume in the body to recover, so you should avoid strenuous activities within 24 hours. 3. After donating blood, you can drink more water to help your blood volume recover. 4. After blood donation, you can eat more high-protein, easily digested and absorbed food, such as lean meat, eggs, milk, chicken, etc., to help the recovery of blood, but avoid overeating. 5. Within one month after blood donation, it is recommended not to drink tea, so as not to affect the rate of blood production. 6. For first time blood donors, some people may feel tired and lethargic after blood donation. 7. If you experience any discomfort or abnormalities after donating blood, you should inform your doctor promptly for timely treatment.

How long does it take to recover after blood donation?

The speed of recovery of various blood components after blood donation is inconsistent and is related to the amount of blood donated, the interval between blood donations, post-donation nutrition and individual differences. 1. The fastest recovery is for water and inorganic salts in the plasma, which recover 1 to 2 hours after blood donation. 2. Protein in the plasma, which is automatically synthesized by the liver after blood donation, can be recovered in about 2 days. 3. And the recovery of red blood cells mainly relies on bone marrow to make them, which takes about 3 weeks.

Do I need to take supplements after blood donation?

Many people worry that their body will not be able to keep up with the previous pace after blood donation and take a lot of tonic products. In fact, this is totally unnecessary; a healthy person who donates 200~400ml of blood will not have any effect on the body, let alone cause weakness, so there is no need to take tonic drugs. However, it is necessary to take appropriate supplements that are good for hematopoiesis. The main raw materials for hematopoiesis are protein, iron, vitamin B12 and folic acid, so they can be supplemented through diet, such as eggs rich in protein, iron-rich soybeans, celery, spinach, tofu, pork liver, etc. Folic acid and vitamin B12-rich foods are mainly found in fresh fruits and vegetables.

Will I gain weight after blood donation?

Gaining weight is due to uncontrolled diet and insufficient activity, and excess substances are converted into fat in the body. There is no direct relationship between blood donation and weight gain, so of course not. Most of the people who feel fat after blood donation are mainly due to the lack of exercise after taking a lot of nourishing food after blood donation.
