November 28, 2023

1. Excessive yang in the middle burner is characterized by obesity, excessive appetite, preference for meat, red face, greasy tongue coating, red tongue, and slippery rapid pulse.

Treatment: Clear the stomach and drain fire.

Acupoints: Hunger point, Stomach Shu, Lung Shu, Yang Chi, and San Jiao Shu.

Procedure: For weight loss, a combination of cupping and ear acupressure is recommended. Stimulate the hunger point (the middle point in front of the earlobe, below the external nasal point) which can reduce bloating and decrease appetite. Cupping at the Lung Shu is effective in promoting the distribution of nutrients and regulating the body's overall energy. The selection of Yang Chi, San Jiao, and Stomach Shu points is closely related to digestion and absorption, and these acupoints are particularly effective in alleviating hunger sensations and other reactions associated with weight loss (including other weight loss methods).

2. Symptoms of phlegm-damp obstruction include obesity or excessive sleepiness, fatigue, poor appetite, bland taste in the mouth, decreased menstrual flow or amenorrhea in women, and spermatorrhea in men. The tongue is swollen with teeth marks, and the pulse is deep or slippery.

Treatment with cupping: Dissolve phlegm and dampness.

Acupoints: Ear acupoints Endocrine and Adrenal, body acupoints San Jiao Shu and Spleen Shu.

Procedure: Stimulate the Endocrine and Adrenal points in the ear, which have a regulatory effect on the endocrine system. Use cupping at the body acupoints to promote the function of the spleen, eliminate dampness, and dissolve phlegm.

Traditional medical weight loss methods are based on the theory of meridians and organs, and they aim to suppress appetite or regulate excessive spleen and stomach functions to achieve weight loss. It should be noted that these methods also have a psychological and suggestive effect. They work through suggesting to the patients to consciously control their food intake, especially during hunger or before meals, and they also trigger the regulation of the hypothalamic feeding center.
