Traditional Chinese medicine believes that cupping can help to regulate the body's meridians and balance the yin and yang. Diseases occur when the body's yin and yang are imbalanced due to pathogenic factors, causing an abnormality in the body's qi circulation and disruption of the functions of the organs and blood. When the body is invaded by external factors such as wind, cold, heat, dampness, dryness, fire, toxins, or internal factors such as emotional disturbances, it can result in dysfunction of the organs, leading to the formation of pathological substances such as blood stasis, qi stagnation, phlegm, food retention, turbidity, and pathogenic heat. These pathological substances act as pathogenic factors, traveling through the meridians and acupoints, disrupting the body's qi circulation and obstructing the organs and meridians, ultimately causing various diseases. Cupping creates a strong suction force due to the vacuum negative pressure, which acts on the meridians and acupoints. It can open the pores and congest the skin, allowing the pathological substances in the body to be drawn out through the pores, thus promoting the circulation of qi and blood in the meridians, adjusting the functions of the organs, and achieving the goal of preventing and treating diseases. Traditional Chinese medicine believes that cupping can unblock the meridians and regulate the qi and blood. The meridians have the physiological functions of "circulating qi and blood, nourishing yin and yang, strengthening tendons and bones, and promoting joint mobility". If the meridians are not unobstructed, there may be a lack of qi circulation, stagnation of blood flow, and inadequate nourishment of the skin, flesh, tendons, pulses, and joints, or inadequate blood supply and dysfunction of the six fu organs. Through the suction effect of cupping on the skin, pores, meridians, and acupoints, it can guide the circulation of nutrients and defensive qi, activate the meridians to promote the circulation of qi and blood, nourish the organs and tissues, and warm the skin and hair. At the same time, it can invigorate the weakened functional capacity of the organs, unblock the meridians, adjust the balance of yin and yang in the body, and regulate the circulation of qi and blood, thereby achieving the goal of promoting health and treating diseases.
