Mediums for Cupping
Cupping therapy can be done without any mediums, but for certain cupping methods, a lubricant is used to prevent skin abrasion.
1. Liquid:
Choose a lubricating liquid such as water or plant oil, which can provide lubrication and enhance the suction during cupping.
2. Solid:
Select soft and smooth solid mediums, like petroleum jelly, moisturizers, or wax, to provide lubrication and keep the local skin moist to prevent dryness and cracking.
3. Medicinal:
Based on the patient's condition, herbal decoctions can be prepared and used after removing impurities. This can provide lubrication and also serve as a treatment for the patient's specific condition.
4. Disinfectants:
Common disinfectants, such as 75% alcohol or 1% chlorhexidine, can be used to disinfect the local skin when cupping is combined with acupuncture or bloodletting.
