Cane of Immortal, also known as Retreating Seedling Bamboo or Shrunken Bamboo, is mentioned in the book "Compendium of Materia Medica". It is the dried stems of dead young bamboo of Phyllostachyl nigra (Lodd.ex Lindl.) Munro var. henonis (Mitf.) Stapf et Rendle and P. amarus (Keng) Keng f., both belonging to the family Poaceae. It can be harvested throughout the year, cleaned of impurities, and dried.
