They are the whole insects of the American cockroach (Periplaneta americana Linnaeus), Oriental cockroach (Blatta orientalis Linnaeus), and Australian cockroach (Periplaneta australasiae Fabricius) in the family Blattidae. They can be captured throughout the year, and are usually caught at night in kitchens, corners, pits, warehouses, etc. They can be used fresh or killed by boiling water and then dried or baked.
Processing method:
1. For cockroaches, "Ci Hang Huo Ren Shu" states: "Add a pinch of salt and mash it together." "Gang Mu Shi Yi" states: "Remove the head, feet, and shell, and mash it with a little sugar." "Yang Su Yuan Chuan Xin Fang" states: "Grind it into powder." Currently, the original medicinal materials are taken and impurities are removed.
2. For roasted cockroaches, "Yi Xue Ru Men" states: "Remove the wings and feet, and stir-fry until golden." "Gang Mu Shi Yi" states: "Roast and dry, add a pinch of radish seeds, and stir-fry together into powder." "Bai Cao Jing" states: "Remove the head, feet, and wings, and roast on new tiles until dry." "Gang Mu Shi Yi" states: "Roast and dry on the tiles, and grind into powder." "Remove the wings and clean them, and roast on a clean tile in a fire basin." "Sichuan Chinese Herbal Medicine Records" states: "Roast and grind into powder." Currently, clean cockroaches are taken and roasted over low heat until crispy.
