Rose, also known as wandering flower, lake flower, thorny rose, thorny chrysanthemum. Recorded in "Food Materia Medica". It is the dried flower bud of the plant Rosa rugosa Thunb. of the Rosaceae family. It is harvested in batches when the flowers are about to bloom in late spring and early summer, and then promptly dried at low temperature.

[Appearance of the drug] Slightly hemispherical or irregularly shaped, with a diameter of 1-2.5cm. The receptacle is hemispherical, fused with the base of the calyx; the sepals are 5, lanceolate, yellow-green or brown-green, covered with fine soft hairs; the petals are wrinkled, and when spread out, they are broadly ovate and arranged in a shingle-like pattern, purple-red, some are yellow-brown; the stamens are numerous, yellow-brown. The body is light and brittle. It has a strong and fragrant aroma and a slightly bitter and astringent taste.
[Processing function] Rose has a sweet and slightly bitter taste, and is warm in nature. It enters the liver and spleen meridians. It has the functions of promoting qi circulation, relieving depression, regulating blood, and regulating menstruation. It is used for symptoms such as chest fullness and stuffiness caused by liver qi stagnation, distention and pain in the epigastric region and sides, breast distention, irregular menstruation, dysentery, diarrhea, leukorrhea, injuries from falls, abscesses, and swellings. For example, rose ointment can be used to treat liver stagnation with blood vomiting and irregular menstruation ("Si He Ting Ji Fang"); it can be decocted with Xiang Fu, Chuan Lian Zi, and Bai Shao to treat stomach pain, and decocted with cuttlebone and white cockscomb to treat leukorrhea ("Shandong Traditional Chinese Medicine"). Rose is often used in clinical practice. After processing, the medicinal materials can be cleaned, making it convenient for compounding and formulation.
