Lai Fu Ying, also known as Lai Fu Ye, Radish Leaf, and Radish Green, is recorded in "Newly Revised Materia Medica". It is the basal leaf of the cruciferous plant Raphanus sativus L. It is harvested in winter or early spring, washed, and then dried by air or sun.
[Processing Method] Take the original herbal material, remove impurities, moisten with water, cut into sections, dry, and sift off the ash.
[Appearance of Herbal Pieces] It is irregular short segments with a rough surface and yellow-green color. The texture is dry and easily broken, with a fragrant aroma and a slightly bitter taste.
[Processing Effect] Lai Fu Ying has a pungent and bitter taste, and is neutral in nature. It enters the spleen, lung, and stomach meridians. It has the functions of promoting digestion, regulating qi, clearing the lungs, and relieving sore throat, as well as dispersing blood stasis and reducing swelling. It is used for food stagnation and distention in the epigastrium, vomiting, diarrhea, dysentery, sore throat, breast swelling and pain in women, and blocked milk ducts. When used together with Shen Qu and Bai Kou Ren, and taken with ginger soup, it can treat dysphagia, chest fullness, vomiting, and hiccups ("Dian Nan Materia Medica"). It can also be applied externally to treat injuries and swelling. Processing Lai Fu Ying makes the herbal material clean and facilitates the blending and dissolution of its components.
