Donkey Kidney, also known as Donkey Penis, Donkey Whip, and Donkey Three Pieces, is recorded in the Compendium of Materia Medica. It is the male reproductive organ of the equine animal Donkey (Equus asinus Linnaeus). After slaughtering the male donkey, its penis and testicles are taken, excess flesh and fat are removed, and they are washed and hung in a ventilated place to air dry.
[Processing Method] 1. Donkey Kidney: Take the original herbal material, wash it, moisten it, or briefly boil it in boiling water, slice it, and dry it.
2. Blanched Donkey Kidney: Take the slices of donkey kidney, stir-fry them with fine sand or talcum powder until slightly inflated, the outer surface appears yellow, and then remove and let them cool.
[Medicinal Properties] Donkey Kidney is irregularly shaped and in piece or slice form. The surface is pale yellowish-white, tough in texture, and the cut surface is sponge-like. It has a fishy odor. Blanched Donkey Kidney resembles a donkey kidney, with a charred yellow surface and a slight inflated appearance, and it has a charred fragrance.
[Processing Effects] Donkey Kidney has a sweet and salty taste, and it is warm in nature. It has the functions of nourishing the kidneys and strengthening yang, and strengthening tendons and bones. After processing, it can reduce the fishy odor, enhance the charred fragrance, facilitate the breakdown of medicinal components, and make it easier to take. It is used for impotence and coldness in the lower abdomen, soreness and weakness of tendons and bones, bone tuberculosis, bone marrow inflammation, insufficient lactation in women, etc. For example, one donkey kidney is cooked, divided into two servings, and taken to treat kidney deficiency and impotence (Northeast Animal Medicine); it is combined with Astragalus membranaceus and Epimedium to treat insufficient lactation in women (Jilin Herbal Medicine); it is combined with Gelatinum Corii Asini to treat habitual miscarriage (Inner Mongolia Medicinal Animals).
