Huji Sheng, also known as Beiji Sheng and Liuji Sheng, is recorded in the "Northeast Medicinal Plant Treatise". It is the stem and leaf of the parasitic plant Viscum coloratum (Kom.) Nakai. It is harvested in winter to early spring, the thick stems are removed, cut into segments, dried, or steamed and dried.
[Processing Method] Take the original medicinal material, remove impurities, wash with water, soak until moist, cut into thick slices, and dry. Sieve to remove ash debris.
[Appearance of Herbal Pieces] It is irregularly thickened. The medullary part of one side of the slice is often inclined, the wood part is light yellow, the bark is yellow, with radial texture, the periphery is yellow-green, golden yellow or yellow-brown, with longitudinal wrinkles. It is light and brittle. The leaves are mostly broken, yellow-green or golden yellow, with fine wrinkles, leathery, without petiole, and entire margin. It is odorless, slightly bitter in taste, and has a sticky texture when chewed.
[Quality Requirements] Calculated based on the dry product, it should contain not less than 0.17% aucubin (C30H48O3).
[Processing Function] Huji Sheng has a bitter taste and is neutral in nature. It belongs to the liver and kidney meridians. It has the functions of dispelling wind and dampness, nourishing the liver and kidneys, strengthening tendons and bones, and calming the fetus. The processing after cutting makes the medicine clean, facilitates the dissolution of active ingredients, and is convenient for dispensing and formulation. It is used for rheumatic pain, lumbago and weakness, and restless fetal movement. For example, it is used in the Shumaining Chongji (Jilin Drug Standard) for the treatment of coronary heart disease and angina, and in the Huji Sheng Injection (Shanghai Drug Standard) for the treatment of coronary heart disease, angina, arrhythmia, myocardial infarction, and hepatitis B.
