【Processing Method】Take the raw material, remove the bone plug, soak it in water, take it out, and shave it into thin slices; or remove the bone plug, file it into powder.
【Appearance of Prepared Pieces】They are extremely thin slices, with one side curled and slightly shiny, or in the form of powder, gray-brown or gray-black in color, with a faint odor and a mild taste.
【Processing Functions】Goat horn has a salty and cold nature. It enters the liver and heart meridians. It has the functions of clearing heat, detoxifying, calming the liver, and extinguishing wind. It is used for colds and fevers, mumps, childhood convulsions, and hypertension. Processing the herb makes it clean, increases the contact area, and facilitates the extraction of active ingredients.
【Processing Research】Goat horn has antipyretic and cooling effects, similar to antelope horn. It also has sedative, anticonvulsant, and analgesic effects. In addition, the water decoction of goat horn has an excitatory effect on the isolated duodenum of rabbits and the ileum of guinea pigs, while the hydrolysate has an inhibitory effect on intestinal smooth muscles. The water decoction and hydrolysate have an excitatory effect on the isolated uterus of rats, but no significant effect on the small intestine of live rabbits and the uterus of rats. After processing, goat horn removes the non-medicinal parts, making it easier for formulation and preparation.
