December 3, 2023

"Deer Heart" in Chinese medicine refers to the heart of the deer species Cervus elaphus Linnaeus or Cervus nippon Temminck. After hunting, the chest is opened and the heart is removed, either used fresh or refrigerated.

【Processing Method】Take the raw herb, remove impurities, and wash it clean.

【Medicinal Form】The heart of Cervus nippon is slightly flat triangular cone-shaped, resembling an oval shape, with a blunt round tip, measuring 4.8-7.5 cm wide and 7.5-8.9 cm high from the coronary groove (base) to the tip. The surface has multiple irregular wrinkled textures. The base is covered with a small amount of light yellow-brown fat, with obvious anterior and posterior longitudinal grooves and an arch at the end, forming uneven wrinkles. The remaining part at the top consists of irregular left and right atria and blood vessels. It is dark black in color and has a strong odor. The heart of Cervus elaphus is slightly flattened, long or short triangular cone-shaped, resembling an oval shape, with a pointed or slightly blunt tip, and a surface that is uneven or has larger wrinkles. It is similar to the heart of Cervus nippon.

【Processing Effect】Deer heart has the function of nourishing the heart and calming the mind. It is used for palpitations and restlessness. Processing makes the medicinal material clean.
