It is the dried flower of the plant Rhododendron molle G.Don, which belongs to the family Ericaceae. The flowers are picked when they first bloom around the beginning of summer and dried promptly or kept in a shaded area.
[Processing method] Take the original herb, remove impurities and flower stems, and sieve out any ash.
[Appearance of the medicinal slice] This product is a dried and wrinkled flower, trumpet-shaped, with the tip curled inward. It is orange-yellow or yellow-brown in color. The stamens are long, with curved filaments that are exposed outside the corolla, and the anthers are egg-yellow. The pistil is cone-shaped and densely covered with hairs. It has a slight aroma and a slightly bitter taste.
[Processing effects] Nao Yang Hua has a pungent and warm taste and is highly toxic. It belongs to the liver meridian. It has the functions of dispelling wind, eliminating dampness, promoting blood circulation, and relieving pain. It is used for rheumatism, stubborn pain from injuries, stubborn psoriasis, and scabies, etc. For example, it is used to treat blood stasis causing pain in women's lower abdomen, with the prescription of Zhi Zhu Wan (from "Sheng Ji Zong Lu"); it is used to treat abdominal pain and diarrhea caused by cold-dampness stagnation, with the prescription of Nao Yang Hua Decoction (from "Ben Cao Yan Yi").
