Many women are worried that dark circles under their eyes make them look older. According to traditional Chinese medicine, dark circles are often caused by kidney deficiency, insufficient vital energy, poor blood circulation, and lack of nourishment to the eyes. Chronic sleep deprivation, excessive TV watching, playing mahjong, and staying up late, particularly chronic insomnia, are direct factors that contribute to dark circles. After ruling out other medical conditions with a doctor, you can try the following methods:
One, eye massage:
1. Zan Zhu (the slight depression between the eyebrows): Use your thumbs to press on the acupoints on both sides and massage by pushing the acupoints together.
2. Si Zhu Kong (the slightly depressed area at the end of the eyebrows): Use your middle finger or index finger to gently push and knead inwards.
3. Tai Yang (1 cm outside the line connecting the end of the eyebrows and the outer eye line): Use your middle finger to gently push and knead the acupoints towards the center of the face. You can also apply eye massage cream or eye nourishing cream on the skin around the eyes, and use your ring finger to press on the end of the eye, ball hou (1/3 outside the lower eyelid), si bai (1/3 inside the lower eyelid), yan ming (above the inner corner of the eye), yu yao (middle of the eyebrows), ying xiang (outside of the nostrils). Press each acupoint for 3-5 seconds and then relax. Repeat 10 times. Place your middle finger on the upper eyelid and your ring finger on the lower eyelid, gently pull and massage from the inner corner to the outer corner of the eyes, repeat 10 times. Then use your index finger, middle finger, and ring finger to lightly tap around the eyes in a circular motion for 3-5 rounds.
Two, eye compress:
1. Lotus root and water chestnut compress: Wash the lotus root and water chestnut, peel the lotus root, then chop the lotus root and water chestnut and put them in a juicer with 2 cups of water. Use the resulting paste to compress the eyes for 10 minutes before bed. The juice can be consumed.
2. Potato slice compress: Peel and wash the potato, then cut it into thick slices. Place the potato slices on the eyes for about 5 minutes, then rinse the face with water. Use potatoes that have not sprouted.
3. Persimmon pulp compress: Cut open a ripe persimmon, scoop out the pulp, mix it well, and apply it to the eyes for 10 minutes. Then wipe it off with a damp towel. Do this once in the morning and once in the evening.
4. Tea bag compress: Apply used black tea bags on the dark circles for about 5 minutes.
Three, traditional Chinese medicine kidney nourishment:
Traditional Chinese medicine treatment mainly focuses on nourishing the liver and kidneys, and clearing the mind and brightening the eyes. For those with deficient kidney yin, you can take Liu Wei Di Huang Wan, Zhi Bo Di Huang Tang, or Gu Ju Di Huang Wan. For those with deficient kidney yang, it is recommended to take Gui Fu Di Huang Wan or other tonics for warming the body.
