Tea: A Natural Remedy for Obesity

December 5, 2023

According to traditional Chinese medicine, the causes of obesity are related to the formation of "dampness", "phlegm", and "water stagnation". Therefore, light food products that promote spleen and stomach health, dampness elimination, and water elimination are considered the best. Tea plays a role in achieving these effects. It can clear heat and promote water elimination, dissolve phlegm and aid digestion, and warm and nourish the spleen and stomach. Oolong tea and Tie Guanyin are popular teas among people. After indulging in heavy meals, people often enjoy a cup of fragrant tea because it helps to alleviate the discomfort in the stomach, thanks to its ability to eliminate greasiness.

Some ethnic minorities have the habit of drinking butter tea and milk tea. Most of them have a diet mainly consisting of meat, which indicates that tea plays a significant role in meat digestion. Modern research has shown that tea contains caffeine, theophylline, theobromine, volatile oils, vitamin C, quercetin, tannins, and other beneficial substances that can lower blood lipid levels and promote metabolism. It is suitable for people with various types of obesity to consume.
