Precautions for fire cupping

December 15, 2022
Because cupping uses an open flame on the surface of the body to drive away oxygen so that it is firmly adsorbed on the surface of the skin, cupping is a relatively risky therapy, so the precautions for cupping should not be ignored. Let's learn what to pay attention to when cupping.

Cupping site selection

When cupping, you should choose plump, elastic muscle areas, avoiding areas with broken skin, easy allergies, thin muscles, and too much hair, and pregnant women should also avoid the lumbosacral and abdominal areas.

Cupping position selection

Fire cupping is best done in the prone position, once cupped, it is not advisable to move the position so as not to dislodge the fire cupping.

The jar size is appropriate, the density is appropriate

Different parts should use the right size of jars. First, the jars should be used after the site should be cupped and the irrigation mouth matches the site. When multiple jars are used together, care should be taken to control the alignment distance, which should not be too tight, otherwise the skin will feel pain from the jars pulling. In addition, the jars are not easy to squeeze each other firmly.

Cupping to prevent burns

No matter what kind of cupping is used, when burning the jar, the fire should be controlled and not too large. In particular, be careful to place the burning material near the bottom of the jar, do not burn the jar mouth too hot, otherwise it is easy to burn the skin.

Cupping time should not be too long

The cupping time should be controlled at about 10~15 minutes, and the cupping should be started immediately when the time is up. If the patient feels burning pain or the irrigation port is sucked too tightly, the cupping should be started earlier according to the patient's feeling.

The correct way to start the cupping

Grasp the can with one hand, make it slightly tilted to one side, and press down with the fingertips of the other hand along the edge of the filling mouth to let the air in, and the can will fall down smoothly, never pull up the can with brute force.

Post-cupping treatment

This is caused by the rupture of microscopic blood vessels in the skin, which can heal automatically and usually disappears in a few days or a week or so. However, if there are burns and skin breakage, you need to apply disinfectant ointment to prevent pus.
