The Effects and Benefits of Massaging Fenglong Acupoint in Traditional Chinese Medicine

November 23, 2023
According to traditional Chinese medicine, phlegm-dampness is a manifestation of the accumulation of metabolic waste in the body. It is related to the habit of frequently consuming "fatty and sweet" foods, which can cause stagnation in the spleen and stomach, making it difficult for dampness and turbidity to be eliminated. People with dampness in the spleen and stomach tend to be overweight and have high blood lipids. In this case, traditional Chinese medicine practitioners often recommend massaging the Fenglong acupoint for regulation. So what are the specific effects of massaging Fenglong?

Origin of the name Fenglong acupoint

The Yangming stomach meridian is rich in qi and blood, and it is abundant in this acupoint, which makes the flesh bulge and become plump, hence the name Fenglong.

Location of the acupoint: Find the knee eye and the outer ankle on the outside of the leg, connect them to form a line, then take the midpoint of this line. Next, find the shinbone on the leg, which is about 1.5 inches on the outer side of the anterior edge of the shinbone, roughly the width of two fingers. The point that is level with the midpoint mentioned earlier is the Fenglong acupoint.

Effects of massaging Fenglong

The Fenglong acupoint is located on the Yangming stomach meridian. The spleen and stomach are yin and yang respectively, and they complement each other. Therefore, this acupoint can regulate the qi and blood of the two meridians on the surface and inside of the body, achieving the effect of "connecting one meridian with two channels." As a result, it can not only treat stomach meridian diseases, but also treat phlegm conditions, promote the circulation of qi and blood in the spleen and stomach meridians, facilitate the transformation of water and grains, and eliminate waste products from the metabolism.

Benefits of massaging Fenglong

Massaging Fenglong has the effects of harmonizing stomach qi, dispelling dampness and transforming phlegm, promoting meridian circulation, nourishing qi and blood, and awakening the brain and calming the spirit. It is a well-known technique for dispelling dampness and transforming phlegm. Massaging this acupoint can eliminate turbidity and dampness in the spleen and stomach, promote the circulation of blood and qi, and is mainly used to treat various diseases caused by phlegm-dampness, such as cough, asthma, headache, dizziness, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, neurasthenia, bronchitis, bronchial asthma, and intestinal muscle spasms.
