Pediatric Massage Techniques for Preventing and Treating Children's Colds

November 21, 2023

Children's lungs are delicate and their barrier function is insufficient. Whenever there is a change in weather or a temperature imbalance, they are prone to catching a cold. Massage techniques not only have the effect of treating colds, but also have a preventive effect. They are particularly effective for weak children who frequently catch colds. Let's take a look at the illustrations of pediatric massage for preventing colds.

Clearing the Lung Meridian for 5-10 minutes

The masseur uses the thumb to directly massage the acupoints on the palm side of the child's ring finger, which is the Lung meridian. The massage is done from the fingertip to the base of the finger, for 5-10 minutes.

Tonifying the Spleen Meridian for 200-500 times

The masseur uses the thumb to directly massage the acupoints on the spiral side of the child's thumb (Spleen meridian), from the base of the finger to the fingertip, for 200-500 times.

Clearing the Tianhe Water for 100-200 times

The masseur uses the thumb to massage along the middle line on the palm side of the child's forearm, from near the wrist to the elbow joint (Tianhe Water), for 100-200 times.

Daily Attention for Preventing and Treating Colds in Children

1. Get plenty of sun and engage in outdoor activities to enhance the child's physical fitness and resistance to disease.

2. Adjust the clothing according to changes in the weather, and avoid the child wearing clothes that are too warm and causing sweating.

3. Drink plenty of water and eat light foods during the cold period. Eat more leafy vegetables and fruits, and avoid greasy foods.

4. If the child frequently catches colds, use preventive massage techniques to prevent colds and strengthen the spleen and stomach on a regular basis.

5. If the condition is severe, pay attention to the possibility of developing pneumonia and seek medical treatment in a timely manner.
