Effective Heat-Clearing Massage Techniques for Health and Wellness

In addition to causing inflammation and constipation, getting too much "fire" in the body can also lead to other diseases. To clear the excessive heat, besides adjusting your diet, you can also try massaging certain acupoints. So, where can you get effective results by massaging to clear heat?

Massage the "Waiguan" Point

Acupoint Location: Sit or lie down with your palm facing down. The "Waiguan" acupoint is located on the back of the forearm, 2 inches above the wrist crease, between the tendons.

Massage Technique:

Dui Rou Method: Use your right thumb and index and middle fingers to press and rotate the "Waiguan" acupoint 36 times in both clockwise and counterclockwise directions. Repeat the same method on your other arm.

Finger Rubbing Method: Use your thumb to rub the "Waiguan" acupoint. Rub gently until you feel a mild tingling or numbness sensation. Massage for 3-5 minutes.

Massage Benefits: Massaging the "Waiguan" acupoint can regulate the flow of qi and blood, boost yang energy, and alleviate symptoms such as fever, headache, cheek pain, deafness, tinnitus, red and swollen eyes, side pain, shoulder and back pain, limited elbow and arm movement, finger pain, and hand tremors. In modern times, this acupoint is commonly used to treat migraines, high fever, neurosensory deafness, intercostal neuralgia, stiff neck, paralysis of limbs, elbow soreness, arm pain, and acute lumbar sprain.

Massage the "Shaochong" Point

Acupoint Location: Located on the radial side of the distal phalanx of the little finger, near the edge close to the ring finger. When locating the acupoint, sit in a relaxed position with your palm facing down. The acupoint is located on the edge near the ring finger.

Massage Technique:

Kneading Method: Gently pinch the depression on both sides of the fingernail of your left little finger with your thumb and index finger. Knead the acupoint in a vertical motion.

Finger Pressure Method: Use your thumb to apply firm pressure to the acupoint. The pressure should create a mild tingling or swelling sensation. Press for 1 minute, alternating between both hands.

Pinching Method: Use your fingernail to pinch and press the acupoint with a certain amount of force. You should feel a numb and swelling pain. Hold for 30 seconds to 1 minute, then press the acupoint on the other hand.

Massage Benefits: Massaging the "Shaochong" acupoint can activate qi and blood circulation, clear heat and wind, relieve the symptoms of restlessness and heat in the heart, mouth ulcers, yellow urine, heatstroke, and fatigue. In traditional Chinese medicine, this acupoint is commonly used to treat fever, coma, fainting, heartache, palpitations, chest pain, and mania.

Massage the "Neiting" Point

Acupoint Location: On the dorsum of the foot, between the 2nd and 3rd toes, at the junction of the red and white skin.

Massage Technique:

Point Rubbing Method: Use your thumb to rub the "Neiting" acupoint approximately 100 times in the morning and evening.

Pressing and Kneading Method: Use your thumb to press and knead the "Neiting" acupoint approximately 100 times until you feel a mild tingling or swelling sensation.

Benefits: The "Neiting" acupoint is an acupoint on the Stomach meridian. It can dispel stomach heat, resolve stagnation, and effectively relieve symptoms caused by excessive heat, such as swollen and painful gums, headache, halitosis, sore throat, constipation, bloating, acid regurgitation, and poor appetite.

Massage the "Shaohai" Point

Acupoint Location: Bend your elbow and locate the acupoint in the depression on the ulnar side of the elbow crease, at the midpoint of the line connecting the ulnar side of the elbow crease and the midpoint of the ulnar bone.

Massage Technique:

Finger Pressure Method: Use your index or middle finger to apply pressure to the "Shaohai" acupoint for 2-3 minutes.

Pinching Method: Place the tip of your left thumb on the "Shaohai" acupoint on your right side. Apply appropriate pressure for about 1 minute, then repeat the same method on the other side with your right hand.

Massage Benefits: "Shaohai" belongs to the Heart meridian of the Hand Shaoyin. It has the functions of clearing the heart, calming the mind, dredging meridians, and resolving phlegm and stagnation. It is commonly used to treat symptoms such as restlessness and heat due to excessive heart fire, laughter, heart pain, insomnia, and forgetfulness.

Massage the "Laogong" Point

Acupoint Location: Located in the hollow of the palm, between the 2nd and 3rd metacarpal bones, closer to the 3rd metacarpal bone. It is where the tip of your middle finger points when you make a fist.

Massage Technique:

Every morning and evening, use the tips of your thumbs to massage the "Laogong" acupoints on both palms approximately 100 times until you feel a slight warmth in your palms.

Massage Benefits: "Laogong" is good at clearing the fire in the heart and stomach. It can relieve symptoms caused by excessive heart fire and stomach fire, such as insomnia, neurasthenia, etc.
