Tuina Method for the Dantian in Children

There are two methods for the dantian: rubbing and massaging. The child should lie on their back, and the dantian area should be rubbed with the palm for 2-3 minutes, which is called rubbing the dantian. The dantian can also be massaged using the fingertips of the thumb or index finger, with 100-300 strokes, which is called massaging the dantian.

The tuina practitioner can use the ridged surface of the middle finger or the palm, the base of the palm, or all four fingers for massaging.

Rubbing and massaging the dantian can nourish the kidneys, warm and supplement the lower part of the body, differentiate clear from turbid, and are commonly used to treat conditions such as congenital deficiency in children, cold condensation in the lower abdomen, abdominal pain, hernia, enuresis, and prolapse.

Clinical Application of the Dantian in Pediatric Tuina

Rubbing the dantian is often used in combination with tonifying the kidney meridian, pushing the three barriers, and massaging the outer labor. It has a certain effect on urinary retention and is often used in combination with pushing the jimen and clearing the small intestine in clinical practice.
