When children have fever and sweat, a massage technique called "tuina" often uses an acupoint called "Er Shan Men". So where exactly is the accurate location of Er Shan Men?
Location of Er Shan Men
Er Shan Men is located on the back of the hand, 0.5 inch below the red and white junction of the fourth and fifth metacarpophalangeal joints, at the depression on both sides of the proximal end of the third metacarpophalangeal joint.
Function of Er Shan Men
Pressing Er Shan Men has the functions of inducing sweating, invigorating the spleen and nourishing the stomach, reducing fever and relieving asthma. It is mainly used to treat nosebleeds, convulsions, vomiting, diarrhea, lack of sweating, and fainting.
Clinical Applications of Er Shan Men
1. This acupoint is known as the "gate of the interstices" and pressing it can open the interstices to induce sweating and expel evil qi. It is effective for those who have external evil qi, excessive heat and closed sweat. It is used to induce sweating and reduce fever, calm convulsions and relieve spasms.
2. Opening the interstices can promote the lung qi and resolve phlegm, so it is also used for phlegm-induced asthma.
3. The "Massage Classic" records that this acupoint "induces sweating in the organs". Clinically, it can disperse qi and regulate the function of the organs, treat symptoms of deficiency of yang qi and sinking, and is also suitable for those who are prone to vulnerability.
Massage Technique for Er Shan Men
Hold the child's hand with one hand, palm facing down. Use the index and middle fingers of the other hand to stabilize the child's wrist, and use the ring finger to support the child's palm. Then pinch the acupoint with the nails of both thumbs and rub it. This is called "pinching Er Shan Men". Pinch 3-5 times, and then use the fingertips of the index and middle fingers to massage in a clockwise direction for 100-300 times. This is called "massaging Er Shan Men". With daily massage, it can relieve symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, and convulsions.
Precautions for Pressing Er Shan Men
This acupoint should be used in conjunction with Xiaotianxin. It induces sweating quickly, but attention should be paid to the child's physical strength, season, and other external factors. Sweating should not be blindly induced, and after sweating, avoid exposure to wind.
