In pediatric tuina, there are two types of Bagua points: internal Bagua and external Bagua. They are located in different positions and require different manipulation techniques. Let's take a look at the correct technique for manipulating internal Bagua.
Accurate Position of Internal Bagua
On the palm, with the center of the palm as the center, draw a circle with a radius of 2/3 from the center to the root of the fingers. The internal Bagua is located on this circle, including 8 directions: Qian, Kan, Gen, Zhen, Xun, Li, Kun, and Dui.
Correct Technique for Manipulating Internal Bagua
Hold the hand of the child with one hand, and press the fingertips of the other hand's index and middle fingers on the center of the palm. Start from Qian Gua and move clockwise to Dui Gua, rubbing gently in a circular motion. This is called manipulating internal Bagua, and it should be done 100-500 times each time.
Functions of Manipulating Internal Bagua
Manipulating internal Bagua can widen the chest and benefit the diaphragm, regulate qi and transform phlegm. It is mainly used to treat symptoms such as phlegm accumulation causing cough and wheezing, internal injury from improper diet, chest stuffiness, abdominal distension, vomiting, and poor appetite. It is often used in combination with stimulating the spleen meridian, stimulating the lung meridian, rubbing the Gate of the Stomach, and rubbing the Zhongwan point.
Clinical Applications of Manipulating Internal Bagua
1. When manipulated in a clockwise direction, it has a dispersing and ascending effect, good for opening the chest and regulating qi, transforming phlegm and resolving accumulation. It is used for symptoms such as chest stuffiness, cough, poor appetite, abdominal distension, and can also induce vomiting and relieve muscle tension.
2. When manipulated in a counterclockwise direction, it has a descending and calming effect, mainly used for vomiting, phlegm blocking the throat, and dizziness.
Main Functions of Different Internal Bagua Points
From Gen to Zhen, Xun to Li (7:30 am to 12 pm), it has a sweating effect (manipulated clockwise seven times).
From Li to Kun, Dui to Qian (12:30 pm to 4:30 pm), it has an antitussive effect (manipulated clockwise seven times).
From Kun to Dui, Qian to Kan (1:30 pm to 6 pm), it has a heat-clearing effect (manipulated clockwise seven times).
From Kan to Gen, Zhen to Xun (6 pm to 10:30 am), it has an antidiarrheal effect (manipulated clockwise seven times).
