When children experience problems such as diarrhea and abdominal distension, doctors often use the method of dividing yin and yang to help treat them. So, where exactly is the accurate location for dividing yin and yang? And what is the purpose of dividing yin and yang?
Accurate Location Diagram for Dividing Yin and Yang
On both sides of the Xiaotianxin acupoint, the end closest to the palm transverse crease of the thumb is called the yin pool acupoint, and the end closest to the little finger is called the yang pool acupoint. This method is called dividing yin and yang through pushing.
Operational Techniques for Dividing Yin and Yang
1. There are two methods: dividing and combining. Usually, the dividing method is used. Hold the child's palm with both hands and use the thumbs to push from the middle of the transverse crease behind the palm to both sides. Different amounts of force must be applied to the two acupoints. This method is called dividing yin and yang, also known as dividing the transverse crease.
2. There is also a massage method called "two dragons playing with a pearl" for the yin and yang acupoints. It has a gentle therapeutic effect. During the procedure, hold the child's index finger and ring finger tips with the right hand, and press the yin and yang acupoints with the left hand, gently shaking the child's two fingers with the right hand.
Purpose of Dividing Yin and Yang
Dividing yin and yang can regulate the balance of yin and yang, harmonize Qi and blood, promote digestion, and treat conditions such as alternating hot and cold sensations, diarrhea, abdominal distension, vomiting, dysentery, food accumulation, restlessness, and excessive phlegm and saliva.
Clinical Applications of Dividing Yin and Yang
1. It is commonly used for imbalances of yin and yang, disharmony of Qi and blood, alternating restlessness, and stagnation of breast milk and food, as well as symptoms such as abdominal distension, diarrhea, and vomiting. It also has a certain effect on treating dysentery.
2. Combining yin and yang can help disperse phlegm and dissolve masses.
Precautions for Dividing Yin and Yang
If the child is predominantly experiencing cold symptoms, such as headache and fever, nasal congestion, and cough, more emphasis should be placed on dividing the yang acupoints. If the child is predominantly experiencing heat symptoms, such as high fever and sensitivity to heat, more emphasis should be placed on dividing the yin acupoints. In other words, this method should first determine the yin and yang attributes of the child's condition, and then either retreat the yin and promote the yang or vice versa, in order to achieve the goal of balancing the yin and yang in the body and adjusting the disorder.
