Massage Techniques for Pediatric Malnutrition: Nourishing the Body through Acupoints

Location: at the fingertips of the thumb.

Procedure: use the thumb pad to straightly push from the radial side of the child's thumb tip towards the root of the thumb for 60-100 times.

Pushing the Plank Gate

Location: at the junction of the palm's major intermetacarpal space.

Procedure: use the thumb pad with slight pressure to push straight from the child's thumb intermetacarpal space towards the wrist crease for 100 times.

Clearing the Large Intestine Meridian

Location: at the radial edge of the index finger, forming a straight line from the fingertip to the thenar eminence.

Procedure: use the thumb pad to push straight from the child's thenar eminence radial edge to the index finger tip for 60-100 times.

Pressing and Massaging Zu San Li

Location: at the outer side of the lower leg, 3 inches below the calf's nose, one horizontal finger (middle finger) away from the anterior edge of the tibia.

Procedure: use the thumb pad to press and massage Zu San Li for 3 minutes, until the local skin becomes slightly red and warm.

Massage According to Syndrome

Spleen-Stagnation Type

Symptom diagnosis: emaciation, failure to gain weight, abdominal distension, poor appetite, mental fatigue, foul-smelling stool, thick and greasy tongue coating, purple fingerprints.

Treatment principle: manipulate the Eight Trigrams internally.

Qi-Blood Deficiency Type

Symptom diagnosis: pale or yellowish complexion, sparse hair, listlessness, cold limbs, loose stools, thin tongue coating, faint or indistinct fingerprints.

Treatment principle: tonify the Kidney Meridian, pinch four horizontal lines.
