November 15, 2023

The Shenque, also known as the navel, is highly valued by health experts throughout history. It is referred to as the "origin of innate nature and the root of life" in the human body. Below is a detailed explanation of Shenque massage techniques and the benefits and effects of Shenque.

Shenque Massage Techniques

Sit upright, lie down, or stand, placing both hands next to the navel. Use the fingertip of the left middle finger to press down on the center of the navel, and use the fingertip of the right middle finger to press down on the left middle finger's nail. Apply pressure to the acupoints with both middle fingers, with the appropriate intensity that causes a slight soreness. Massage the acupoints with alternating hands in the morning and evening, starting with the left hand and then the right hand, for 1-3 minutes each time.

The Functions of Shenque

Shenque is one of the important acupoints on the Ren meridian. Stimulating Shenque acupoint can enhance the body's immune function, regulate the disorder of visceral functions, and delay aging. It can regulate spleen yang, improve diseases caused by spleen deficiency, such as indigestion, feeling cold and limb coldness caused by systemic yang deficiency, as well as diseases related to the male and female reproductive systems. In addition, it has unique therapeutic effects on abdominal distension, abdominal pain, intestinal rumbling, abdominal edema, diarrhea, prolapse, and symptoms caused by stroke. Therefore, it is also an important acupoint for emergency treatment.

The Benefits of Shenque

Shenque is connected to the body's true yang and true qi, so it is a major tonifying acupoint for the whole body's yang. Moreover, the Ren, Dai, and Chong meridians pass through this acupoint, so it can connect the five zang organs and six fu organs. Stimulating Shenque acupoint can regulate the whole body, allowing the body's true qi to be abundant and maintaining a state of mental vigor and abundant physical strength.

Precautions for Massaging Shenque

Massage Shenque requires gentle movements and moderate intensity. When massaging, the palm should stimulate the subcutaneous tissues around the navel, causing a slight warmth in the abdomen without any obvious discomfort. The massage range should start from the center of Shenque and gradually expand to the entire abdomen. When expanding to the entire abdomen, the pressure applied by the palm can be reduced, without stimulating the subcutaneous tissues, and friction between the palm and the skin can generate warmth.

It is best to massage two hours after a meal, allowing the stomach to rest first. The best time for massage is before going to bed at night.

Note that women should avoid massaging the waist and abdomen during menstruation. This method should not be used by patients with acute inflammation, malignant tumors, trauma, or skin diseases with skin lesions.

Other Health Methods for Shenque

Warm moxibustion on Shenque acupoint also has obvious health benefits and disease prevention and treatment effects.

Using large moxa cones or other yang-warming products can further tonify yang, rescue yang deficiency, and treat extreme coldness of yin syndrome, cold hands and feet, tight jaw, and almost fainting, which cannot be resolved by warm medicines. If moxibustion is applied to Guanyuan acupoint, it has the function of warming and tonifying kidney yang. If applied to Baihui and Bladder Shu acupoints, it has the function of ascending yang and stabilizing collapse, and warming yang and fixing prolapse. If applied to Shimen acupoint, it has the function of warming yang, promoting diuresis, and unblocking channels for qi circulation.
