Functions of Zhongwan

Zhongwan Acupuncture Point is the convergence point of four meridians, located in the middle of the human body's organs. It is considered the "soul acupoint" of the stomach and has the functions of strengthening the spleen, transforming dampness, tonifying the middle, benefiting qi, promoting meridian circulation, relieving pain, and descending stomach qi. Its main function is to treat various stomach disorders, including stomach pain, abdominal pain, bloating, belching, acid reflux, intestinal rumbling, diarrhea, gastritis, gastric ulcers, and gastric dilation. The specific benefits are as follows:

Treating Stomach Disorders

Zhongwan is the Mu point of the Stomach Meridian and the soul hub of stomach function. Regular stimulation of this acupuncture point can not only treat stomach prolapse and duodenal ulcers but also alleviate stomach pain and other discomfort symptoms.

Treatment methods: 1. Place both palms facing down and press gently in a circular motion on the acupoint for 5-10 minutes until a warm sensation is felt on the skin. 2. Use fingertips or the base of the palm to press and knead the acupoint gently for 2-5 minutes until a warm sensation is felt on the skin.

Harmonizing the Spleen and Stomach

Zhongwan is considered the "foundation of acquired constitution." As the gathering point of the essence and qi of the six viscera, it plays an important role in connecting the spleen and stomach. Spleen and stomach disorders are generally caused by qi deficiency or blockage of qi and blood. Stimulating Zhongwan can dredge blockages and replenish qi and blood, comprehensively regulate the spleen and stomach, and strengthen their functions. It has a special effect on poor digestion in the stomach.

Weight Loss

Zhongwan is the Mu point of the Stomach Meridian and also the meeting point of the Ren Meridian, Small Intestine Meridian, and Triple Burner Meridian. Stimulating Zhongwan can strengthen the spleen, descend stomach qi, and promote water metabolism. By enhancing the function of the spleen and stomach, it can effectively prevent the accumulation of toxins and waste in the abdomen, thus achieving weight loss.

Massage method: Sit upright, lie supine, or stand, place both hands on the upper abdomen, use the fingertip of the left middle finger to press the acupoint, and press the fingernail of the right middle finger with the fingertip of the left middle finger. Use both middle fingers to apply pressure and knead the acupoint simultaneously. The pressure should be enough to produce a sour and swollen sensation. Massage the acupoint with alternating left and right hands in the morning and evening. Each massage should last for 1-3 minutes. Avoid massaging the waist and abdomen during menstruation.

Location of Zhongwan Acupuncture Point

Zhongwan is located in the upper abdomen, on the midline, 4 cun above the umbilicus, which is the midpoint of the line connecting the umbilicus and the xiphoid process. When locating the point, the patient can lie supine, and the point is at the midpoint of the line connecting the lower edge of the sternum and the umbilicus.

Causes of Zhongwan Pain
