Neurodermatitis is a chronic skin disease that greatly affects sleep and causes extreme discomfort. Scraping therapy is effective in relieving itching caused by neurodermatitis. Let's take a look at the scraping therapy for neurodermatitis!

Scraping Therapy for Neurodermatitis

1. Acupoint Selection

Fengchi, Geshu, Zusanli, Weizhong, Xuehai, Yinlingquan, Sanyinjiao, Quchi, Neiguan, Shenmen, Dazhui.

Additional acupoints based on symptoms: If insomnia occurs, add Xinyu; if irritability and anger occur, add Ganshu and Taichong; if there are symptoms of blood deficiency, add Pishu.

Acupoint selection method:

Fengchi: Below the occipital bone, in the depression between the sternocleidomastoid muscle and the upper end of the trapezius muscle.

Dazhui: On the midline of the back, in the depression below the spinous process of the 7th cervical vertebra.

Geshu: Below the spinous process of the 7th thoracic vertebra, 1.5 cun lateral to the midline.

Zusanli: 3 cun below the calf's nose, 1 cun lateral to the anterior border of the tibia.

Weizhong: On the transverse crease of the popliteal fossa, in the middle of the popliteal fossa.

Xuehai: On the inner side of the thigh, 2 cun above the inner end of the patella, at the prominence of the inner head of the quadriceps femoris.

Yinlingquan: On the inner side of the lower leg, in the depression below the posterior tibial plateau.

Sanyinjiao: 3 cun above the medial malleolus, on the posterior border of the tibia.

Quchi: Above the transverse crease of the elbow, at the midpoint between Chize and the outer upper prominence of the humerus.

Neiguan: On the palmar side of the forearm, on the line connecting Quze and Daling, 2 cun above the transverse crease of the wrist, between the tendon of the flexor carpi radialis and the tendon of the flexor carpi ulnaris.

Shenmen: On the wrist, at the ulnar side of the transverse crease of the wrist, in the depression on the radial side of the tendon of the flexor carpi ulnaris.

2. Scraping Method

Use a water buffalo horn scraping board and red flower oil as the medium. Use a direct scraping technique with a reinforcing method.

Scrape Fengchi and Dazhui on the back of the neck first, then scrape Quchi, Neiguan, and Shenmen on the upper limbs, and finally scrape Weizhong, Xuehai, Yinlingquan, Sanyinjiao, and Zusanli on the lower limbs.

Specific operation method:

(1) The patient sits, and the practitioner stands behind the patient. Use a direct scraping technique to scrape Fengchi, Dazhui, Geshu, Quchi, Neiguan, Shenmen, and other acupoints. After applying scraping medium (red flower oil) to the treatment area, use a scraping tool to directly contact the patient's skin and repeatedly scrape in a top-down order until petechiae appear.

(2) The patient lies supine, and the practitioner stands beside the patient. Use a direct scraping technique to scrape Weizhong, Xuehai, Yinlingquan, Sanyinjiao, and other acupoints on the lower limbs. After applying scraping medium (red flower oil) to the treatment area, use a scraping tool to directly contact the patient's skin and repeatedly scrape until petechiae appear.

(3) Use tapping technique. Use a hollow palm or a scraping board to gently tap the affected area, especially the areas that are painful, itchy, or swollen, until petechiae appear.

3. Effects

Nourishes yin, moisturizes dryness, and relieves itching.

Note: (1) During treatment, pay attention to diet and lifestyle, avoid wind and cold; (2) Also avoid excessive mental stress.

4. Indications

Mainly treats neurodermatitis, which is clinically manifested as paroxysmal skin itching, thickening of the skin, deepening of skin lines, and the appearance of round or polygonal flat papules on the surface.

Modern medicine believes that the etiology of this disease may be related to dysfunction of the nervous system, imbalance of excitation and inhibition processes in the cerebral cortex, and psychological factors are considered as the main triggers. Emotional tension, overwork, and anxiety can all trigger and exacerbate skin lesions. Friction, scratching, sweating, or other physical stimuli and insect bites can also induce symptoms.

Precautions for Scraping Therapy for Neurodermatitis

1. Precautions before Scraping

1. Scraping therapy requires exposed skin, and the skin pores should be open during scraping. If exposed to wind and cold, evil qi can directly enter the body through the open pores, affecting the efficacy of scraping therapy and possibly causing new diseases. Therefore, choose a good treatment location with fresh and well-ventilated air, and pay attention to keeping warm. Avoid scraping in places with draft winds during the summer. Expose as little skin as possible.

2. Choose a comfortable body position for scraping to facilitate scraping and prevent dizziness from scraping.

3. Strictly disinfect the scraping tools to prevent cross-infection. Before scraping, carefully check the scraping tools to avoid scraping the skin.

4. The hands of the practitioner should also be disinfected.

5. Before scraping, explain the general knowledge of scraping to the patient, eliminate their fear, and gain their cooperation to prevent dizziness from scraping.

6. Avoid performing scraping therapy on patients who are excessively hungry, full, or under excessive tension.

2. Precautions during Scraping

1. Use even force during scraping, with a degree that the patient can tolerate, until petechiae appear.

2. For infants and elderly patients, use gentle scraping techniques.

3. Do not blindly pursue petechiae and use excessive force or prolong scraping time. The amount of petechiae is influenced by many factors. Generally, blood stasis syndrome produces more petechiae; excess syndrome or heat syndrome produces more petechiae; deficiency syndrome or cold syndrome produces fewer petechiae; excessive medication, especially the use of corticosteroids, makes it difficult to produce petechiae; obese or muscular individuals are less likely to produce petechiae; yin channels are less likely to produce petechiae than yang channels; and petechiae are less likely to appear when the room temperature is low.

4. During scraping, frequently ask the patient about their feelings. If dizziness from scraping occurs, such as fatigue, dizziness, pale complexion, nausea, cold sweat, palpitations, cold limbs, or a decrease in blood pressure and loss of consciousness, immediately stop scraping. Comfort the patient and help them lie flat, keep them warm, and provide warm water or sugar water. If the symptoms do not improve, gently press the groove point with the corner of the scraping board, avoiding edema after pressing with excessive force. Use the diarrhea scraping method on Baihui and Yongquan points. After the patient's condition improves, continue scraping Neiguan and Zusanli points.

3. Precautions after Scraping

1. Scraping therapy opens the pores and eliminates evil qi, which consumes part of the body's fluids. After scraping therapy, drink a cup of warm water and rest for a while.

2. After scraping therapy, in order to avoid the invasion of wind and cold, wait for the pores to close and return to their original state before bathing, which generally takes about 3 hours.

3. For patients with complex and severe conditions, in addition to scraping therapy, other treatments should be combined, such as medication, to avoid delaying the condition.
