November 14, 2023

The liver meridian is like a general in the human body, helping with the smooth flow and storage of blood. Let's take a look at the benefits of massaging the liver meridian.

Benefits of Massaging the Liver Meridian

Through massaging the acupoints of the liver meridian, it can to some extent promote the smooth flow of qi and blood in the liver meridian. When qi and blood are abundant, they can effectively nourish the body and improve symptoms such as blurry vision, yellowing of the whites of the eyes, dry mouth and bitter taste, and headaches. It can also help regulate emotions and improve vitality. Massaging the acupoints of the liver meridian, such as Zhongfeng, Sanyinjiao, Taichong, Ququan, and Xingjian, at least 20 times each, benefits the normal functioning of the liver meridian.

Characteristics of the Liver Organ

Coordinating the Activities of the Organs

The liver is responsible for regulating the flow of qi throughout the body. By massaging the liver meridian, the liver can function properly in promoting the smooth flow of qi throughout the body and ensuring unobstructed meridians, thus maintaining the normal coordination of organ activities.

Maintaining the Yin-Yang Balance of the Liver Organ

The liver stores blood and regulates blood volume to prevent bleeding. It obtains blood from the essence of food and drink processed by the spleen, and stores a certain amount of blood. This not only nourishes the liver itself, constraining the liver's yang qi to maintain the balance of yin and yang, but also prevents bleeding.

Main Acupoints of the Liver Meridian for Massage

Dadun (Great Tonification Point): Dadun is the well point of the liver meridian. When the liver is depressed due to emotional stress or excessive heat, blood circulation disorders may lead to various bleeding disorders. Massaging Dadun acupoint in combination with Yinbai acupoint can treat bleeding disorders.

Taichong (Great Rushing Point): Taichong is the original point of the liver meridian. It has the functions of soothing the liver, relieving depression, calming the liver, and extinguishing wind, as well as harmonizing menstrual flow. When there is soreness or nodules at the Taichong acupoint, it indicates unstable blood pressure or generalized body pain. Stimulating Taichong has a good effect on lowering blood pressure.

Zhangmen (Chapter Gate): Zhangmen is the junction point of the liver meridian and gallbladder meridian, as well as the gathering point of the spleen meridian. It is mainly used to improve emotional depression, loss of appetite, and indigestion caused by spleen and stomach disorders.

Qimen (Cycle Gate): Qimen is located in the 6th intercostal space on the front midline. For men, it is two intercostal spaces down from the nipple, and for women, it is at the 6th intercostal space on the midline of the clavicle. This is a very important acupoint, as it regulates the circulation of qi and blood in the twelve meridians. Stimulating Yunmen acupoint in the morning and Qimen acupoint in the evening can help regulate the smooth flow of qi and blood throughout the body.
