The Bladder Meridian of the Foot-Taiyang is a very important meridian. It starts from the heel, runs along the back of the leg, the sides of the spine in the middle of the back, all the way up to the brain. It is a large meridian with the most acupuncture points among the twelve meridians, and it has the widest range of preventive and therapeutic effects on diseases. By stimulating the acupuncture points on the Bladder Meridian, various discomforts can be alleviated and relieved.

Pathway of the Bladder Meridian of the Foot-Taiyang

It starts at the Jingming point beside the inner canthus of the eye, runs along the head to the occiput, then along the side of the spine, 3 cun beside the midline of the back, to the posterior edge of the thigh on the outer side, then to the posterior edge of the lower leg, and finally stops at the Zhiyin point on the lateral side of the little toe (connecting with the Kidney Meridian).

Distribution of Acupuncture Points on the Bladder Meridian of the Foot-Taiyang

Starting from Jingming (BL1), it ascends to the forehead (Zanzhu-BL2, Yuyao-BL3, Quchi-BL4), meets at the vertex (Wuchu-BL5, Chengguang-BL6, Tongtian-BL7), branches out from the vertex to the temples (Huiqu-BL8, Shuaigu-BL9, Fubai-BL10, etc.). The main pathway descends from the vertex to connect with the brain (Luoque-BL8, Yuzhen-BL9), exits at the back of the neck (Tianzhu-BL10), and then divides into three branches:

1. Along the inner side of the scapula, passes through the spine (Dazhu-BL11, Fengmen-BL12, Feishu-BL13, Jueyinshu-BL14, Xinshu-BL15, Shendao-BL16, Geshu-BL17), reaches the waist (Ganshu-BL18, Danzhong-BL19, Pishu-BL20, Weishu-BL21, Sanjiaoshu-BL22, Shenshu-BL23), enters the muscles beside the spine, connects with the Kidney Meridian, and belongs to the Bladder Meridian (Qihai-BL24, Dachangshu-BL25, Guanyuan-BL26, Xiaochangshu-BL27, Pangguangshu-BL28, Zhonglou-BL29, Baihuan-BL30).

2. Branches out from the waist, passes beside the spine, goes through the buttocks (Shangliao-BL31, Ciliao-BL32, Zhongliao-BL33, Xiaoliao-BL34, Huiyang-BL35, Chengfu-BL36), and enters the popliteal fossa (Yinmen-BL37, Weizhong-BL40).

3. Descends separately from the inner side of the scapula, passes through the scapula, runs along the outer side of the main pathway on the back and waist (Fufen-BL38, Po Hu-BL39, Gaohuang-BL40, Shenti-BL41, Hui Xi-BL42, Ge Guan-BL43, Hun Men-BL44, Yang Gang-BL45, Yi She-BL46, Wei Cang-BL47, Huang Men-BL48, Zhi Shi-BL49, Bao Huang-BL50, Zhi Bian-BL51), passes through the hip joint, runs along the outer side of the thigh (Fuqi-BL52, Wei Yang-BL53), joins at the popliteal fossa (Weizhong-BL40), and then descends through the gastrocnemius muscle (Heyang-BL54, Chengjin-BL55, Chengshan-BL56), passes behind the lateral malleolus (Feiyang-BL57, Fuyang-BL58, Kunlun-BL60), runs along the fifth metatarsal tuberosity (Pucan-BL61, Shenmai-BL62, Jinmen-BL63, Jinggu-BL64), and reaches the lateral side of the little toe (Shugu-BL65, Zutonggu-BL66, Zhiyin-BL67), connecting with the Kidney Meridian.
