The Kidney Meridian of the Foot Shaoyin starts below the little toe, runs obliquely through the sole of the foot (Yongquan point), travels straight down to the prominence of the medial malleolus, branches out to enter the heel, then runs up along the posterior edge of the lower leg, passes the medial aspect of the knee, enters the inner thigh, travels through the spine (Changqiang point), and finally connects to the kidney and the bladder. This meridian runs straight inside the abdominal cavity, ascending from the kidneys, passing through the liver and the diaphragm, entering the lungs, and extending along the throat to the sides of the base of the tongue. It also branches out from the lungs, connects to the heart, and enters the chest, intersecting with the Heart Protector Meridian of the Hand Jueyin.

Functions and Indications of the Kidney Meridian of the Foot Shaoyin

This meridian mainly treats diseases related to the reproductive and urinary systems, as well as diseases of the nervous, respiratory, digestive, and circulatory systems. It also treats diseases related to the areas traversed by this meridian.

For example, it can be used to treat irregular menstruation, edema, nocturnal emissions, impotence, abnormal vaginal discharge, asthma, diarrhea, and pain or numbness in the lower limbs.

The main acupoints of the Kidney Meridian of the Foot Shaoyin include Yongquan (KD1), Ran Gu (KD2), Tai Xi (KD3), Da Zhong (KD4), Shui Quan (KD5), Zhao Hai (KD6), Fu Liu (KD7), Yin Gu (KD10), Heng Gu (KD11), Da He (KD12), Qi Men (KD14), Shang Qu (KD17), You Men (KD21), and Yu Fu (KD25). There are a total of 27 acupoints, with 54 acupoints in total when counting both sides.

Recommended Time for Nurturing the Kidney Meridian of the Foot Shaoyin

The Kidney Meridian of the Foot Shaoyin is at its peak energy during the Rooster hour (17:00-19:00). After the Monkey hour (15:00-17:00), which is believed to eliminate fire and detoxify the body, the kidney enters a stage of storing essence during the Rooster hour. During this time, massaging the acupoints along the kidney meridian can promote the abundant flow of qi and blood in the meridian, thus nourishing and nurturing the kidneys.

Massage Method: Start massaging from the Yongquan point on the sole of the foot, follow the meridian upwards, massaging Ran Gu, Tai Xi, and Fu Liu, and finally reach Yin Gu. Repeat this process 10-20 times. Then, apply stronger pressure to the Yongquan, Ran Gu, Tai Xi, and Fu Liu points for 3-5 minutes each.
