Precautions for Eating Radix Rehmanniae
1. Do not take excessive doses
The general dosage of Radix Rehmanniae is 10-30g. Radix Rehmanniae has a greasy nature and excessive doses may not be fully absorbed by the body. It may also affect the normal digestive function of the spleen and stomach. If it is used for the treatment of a certain disease, it is recommended to consult a doctor for detailed dosage and adjust the dosage according to your own condition under the guidance of a doctor.
2. Avoid long-term use
Radix Rehmanniae has a sticky quality and is not easy to digest. Long-term use may affect the digestion of the spleen and stomach. If long-term use is required, it is recommended to take it with other spleen-tonifying herbs such as Amomum and dried tangerine peel under the guidance of a doctor, in order to maintain normal spleen and stomach function.
3. Avoid eating with radishes and "Three Whites"
"The Essence of Materia Medica" records: "Avoid radishes, white onions, white leeks, and white garlic." Radishes have the function of reducing qi, and the "Three Whites" have a strong dispersing effect. Eating them together with Radix Rehmanniae will reduce its efficacy.
4. Avoid eating during colds
Radix Rehmanniae is a Chinese medicinal herb with strong nourishing effects. Traditional Chinese medicine believes that colds are caused by the invasion of external evils, and it is not suitable to tonify the body during a cold. Otherwise, it may cause the evil qi to stay in the body, making it difficult to expel, thus worsening the symptoms of the cold or prolonging the duration of the cold.
5. Not suitable for people with weak spleen and stomach
Radix Rehmanniae has a sticky quality and is not easily digested. People with weak spleen and stomach have inherently weak spleen and stomach functions. Taking Radix Rehmanniae may not be absorbed by the body and may further affect their digestive function, causing symptoms such as distension in the epigastrium, poor appetite, and pale complexion to worsen.
6. Not suitable for people with loose stools or diarrhea
People who already have symptoms of loose stools or diarrhea should not take Radix Rehmanniae. The sticky quality of Radix Rehmanniae may further hinder the digestion and transformation of the spleen and stomach, resulting in worsened symptoms of loose stools or diarrhea.
7. Not suitable for people with qi stagnation and phlegm excess
People with symptoms such as local body masses, chest stuffiness, rib pain, and slippery pulse should not take Radix Rehmanniae. The greasy nature of Radix Rehmanniae is not easily digested and taking it may aggravate the phlegm dampness in the body, leading to worsened symptoms of discomfort.
