The Location, Function, and Treatment of Jing Qu Acupoint

经渠 (Jing Qu) literally means "meridian channel". It refers to the pathway where the overflow of deficient Qi in the lung meridian flows back. Now let's take a detailed look at the accurate location and function of Jing Qu.

Accurate Location of Jing Qu Channel

Located between the styloid process of the radius and the radial artery, one inch above the transverse crease of the wrist.

Easy Acupoint Location: With the arm straight and palm facing up, at the transverse crease of the wrist, the middle finger falls down on the radial side of the arm, along the edge of the styloid process of the radius on the inner side of the arm.

Anatomical Structure of Jing Qu Acupoint

On the inner side is the tendon of the wrist flexor, and deep inside is the pronator teres muscle. The radial artery and the vein are on the radial side. It is innervated by the mixed branches of the superficial branch of the lateral cutaneous nerve of the forearm and the superficial branch of the radial nerve.

Functions and Indications of Jing Qu Acupoint

Classification: It is an acupoint of the lung meridian and belongs to the metal element.

Functions: It regulates lung Qi, clears lung heat, relieves wind and resolves surface.

Indications: 1. Cough, wheezing, chest tightness, chest pain, and throat swelling and pain; 2. Wrist pain and palm heat.

Mechanism of Action of Jing Qu Acupoint

1. As an acupoint of the lung meridian, Jing Qu belongs to the metal element, just like the lung itself. According to the theory of meridians, the lung meridian governs wheezing, cough, cold, and heat. Therefore, Jing Qu has the functions of regulating lung Qi, promoting lung and throat, and relieving pain. It can be used to treat fever and chills caused by abnormal lung descending, cough, wheezing, chest tightness, chest pain, and swollen and painful throat caused by lung heat stagnation;

2. Treating wrist pain can relieve the tendons and activate the collaterals, and treating palm heat can clear the lung heat.

Common Treatment Methods of Jing Qu Acupoint

For external pathogenic invasion, it can be combined with Lie Que (LU 7) and Feng Men (BL 12); for lung heat, it can be combined with Yu Ji (LU 10) and Chi Ze (LU 5); for wrist pain and palm heat, it can be combined with Lao Gong (PC 8) and Yang Xi (LI 5); for cough, it can be combined with Fei Shu (BL 13) and Chi Ze (LU 5).

Special Massage Therapy for Jing Qu Acupoint

Use the fingertip of the middle finger to press and massage for 4-5 minutes on each hand. Regular massage can alleviate inflammation in the throat and lungs, making breathing easier and smoother.
