Mudanpi is the same as Danpi, which is bitter, pungent, slightly cold in nature and belongs to the heart, liver and kidney meridians. It has the effect of clearing heat and cooling the blood, activating blood circulation and resolving siltation, and reducing deficiency heat. Clearing heat and cooling the blood

Mudanpi is pungent and slightly cold in nature, with the effect of clearing heat and cooling the blood. It is often used to treat heat entering the blood, Yin deficiency, epistaxis, carbuncles, sores and toxins.

Promoting blood circulation and dispersing blood stasis

Mudanpi has the function of activating blood circulation and removing blood stasis. A decoction can be used internally for blood stasis and amenorrhea, dysmenorrhea, and externally for stagnant blood accumulation, redness and pain caused by iron injury.

Lowering liver fire

Peony bark can be used for liver stagnation and fire, body heat in the evening, headache and eye acuity, often together with Xia Gu Cao, Tian Ma and Chrysanthemum.

Anti-pathogenic microorganism

In vitro experiments have shown that Mudanpi decoction has strong antibacterial effects on Bacillus subtilis, Escherichia coli, S. typhi, S. paratyphi, S. pyogenes, P. aeruginosa, Staphylococcus, Streptococcus hemolyticus, Pneumococcus, Vibrio cholerae, etc.

Anti-inflammatory

Peony bark is commonly used in the treatment of arthritis caused by various reasons, and can inhibit inflammation, swelling and exudation, and inhibit capillary permeability. Its analgesic effect, although not strong, can strengthen the effect of the main drug in compound formulas. Gavage with peony bark phenol has an inhibitory effect on foot and plantar swelling caused by dextran or acetic acid, or carob gum in rats, and can inhibit the occurrence of stress ulcers in mice.

Enhancement of immunity

When rats were gavaged with peony bark extract, microscopic observation showed that the phagocytic power of macrophages in liver and spleen was enhanced, from which it can be seen that peony bark can enhance the immunity of the body and help resist germs.

Lowering blood pressure

Peony bark has vasodilating and antihypertensive effects, increases coronary blood flow and reduces cardiac output, and is a commonly used antihypertensive medicine with good effect for the treatment of protein hematuria in kidney disease.

Sedative and antispasmodic

Peony phenol can significantly reduce the spontaneous activity of mice, with significant sedative effect. Peony phenol has a significant antispasmodic effect on acetylcholine-induced strong contraction of guinea pig isolated ileum. Paeoniflorin also has a significant antispasmodic effect on intestinal smooth muscle.

Contraindications to the use of peony bark

Mudanpi should not be eaten together with garlic

Garlic is pungent, warm and smelly, while peony bark is bitter, pungent and slightly cold, with opposite taste and medicinal properties. Therefore, garlic should not be eaten when taking Chinese medicine containing peony bark.

Mudanpi should not be eaten with cilantro

Mudanpi has the function of clearing heat and cooling the blood, clearing deficiency heat, activating blood circulation and resolving siltation, etc. Cilantro is pungent, warm and fragrant, while Mudanpi is bitter, pungent and slightly cold, with the opposite sexual and medicinal properties. So the two can not be used together. Other compatible foods: Danpi is compatible with Bayberry and Rhubarb.

Contraindications to the use of drugs

(1) Cold in blood deficiency, pregnant women and those with excessive menstruation should take it with caution. (2) "Ben Jing Feng Yuan": Do not use if you sweat a lot, because it can drain fluids. Do not use it for the beginning of pox rash, because its nature is specialized in dispersing blood, not without the root foot scattered wide concern. (3) "The De-matching of the Materia Medica": Do not use it if the stomach is cold and the phase fire is weak.
