Sedative and analgesic effect

Cinnamon contains cinnamaldehyde, which has been proven to have anti-excitatory and analgesic effects in solid tests on animals and mice. This effect is mainly due to the function of cinnamaldehyde in the central nervous system, which inhibits the activity of neurons to achieve sedation and analgesia.

Anti-coagulant effect

Cinnamon aqueous extract and volatile oil have certain antagonistic and protective effects on platelet aggregation and myocardial injury caused by increased secretion of endogenous catecholamines in rats under ice-water stress. Cinnamon decoction can increase coronary and cerebral blood flow and decrease vascular resistance in anesthetized dogs; cinnamon decoction, cinnamaldehyde and coumarin have inhibitory effects on ADP-induced platelet aggregation in rats.

Anti-gastric inflammatory effect

The function of human body organs is declining with age, which is a normal aging phenomenon, but part of it is caused by diseases. The stomach is one of the main digestive organs of human beings, and is also one of the most widely affected parts, with more than half of the world's population suffering from stomach diseases. The aqueous extract of cinnamon has some anti-gastric inflammatory effect, mainly by inhibiting the secretion of gastric acid and promoting the superficialization of blood to increase the blood flow on the gastric mucosa, nourishing the gastric mucosa and promoting the healing of inflammation.

Cooling effect

In traditional Chinese medicine the whole plant of cinnamon tree can be used as medicine, and many prescriptions of traditional Chinese medicine contain cinnamon or cinnamon sticks, mainly using its antipyretic effect. In animal experiments, cinnamon aqueous extract was found to have a cooling effect on normal body temperature in mice and on artificial fever caused by mixed vaccines of typhoid and paratyphoid. In rabbits with warm prick-induced fever, cinnamaldehyde and sodium cinnamate both had antipyretic effects.

Emmenagogue effect

Menstrual disorders are common in many women due to ageing or irregularities in daily life and metabolic disorders in the body. Cinnamon contains a large amount of cinnamon oil, which has a certain volatile effect and also has a menstrual effect, causing the uterus to be congested and promoting menstruation, which is also the basis for the abortifacient effect of cinnamon.

Antibacterial effect

Cinnamon bark oil has a strong bactericidal effect, and is more effective against Gram-staining positive bacteria than negative ones. It is seldom used as an antibacterial drug because of its irritating properties, but can be applied externally to treat stomachache, gastric distension and colic.
