Clear lung heat

Mulberry bark is often used in traditional Chinese medicine to clear lung heat and asthma. Mulberry bark is cold in nature and enters the lung meridian, and can relieve lung fire and water in the lung to calm asthma. For treating cough and asthma of lung heat, it is often used together with ground bark, such as Diabai San; if water drink stops in the lung, swelling and panting, it can be used together with ephedra, almond, scape bark and other medicines that promote lung and expel drink.

Lowering blood pressure

Aqueous decoction of the roots, stems and branches of mulberry tree has a hypotensive effect on animals, but the leaves of mulberry tree do not have this effect. Mulberry bark water or n-butanol extract 50mg/kg or more injected intraperitoneally into mice can reduce spontaneous activity, reduce tactile and nociceptive responses, dilate pupils, and mildly inhibit the occurrence of electroshock in mice.

Anti-inflammatory and antibacterial

Anti-inflammatory: aqueous extract of Morus alba bark given to rats orally or by injection has an inhibitory effect on foot swelling caused by carrageenan and dextran. Antibacterial: Mulberry bark decoction has a strong inhibitory effect on Staphylococcus aureus; it also has a mild inhibitory effect on S. typhi and S. fowleri. Mulberry furan A has strong antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus divergens. Cyclosporin also has antifungal effect.
