Robitussin also protects against radiation-induced hematopoietic damage in mice. Oral or intraperitoneal administration improves the decrease in white blood cell count caused by radiation and prolongs the survival time of mice.

Antioxidant effect

The leaf extract of Lophora japonica has an anti-oxidant effect on fruit flies, silkworm and mice, which can delay aging or prolong life span. The extract of rooibos leaf had different degrees of reducing effect on visceral lipofuscin content in mice, and could make the superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity in liver and heart of different age groups of mice generally increase. Roburin tea can improve the SOD value as well as HDL-e in erythrocytes, which may be beneficial to prevent atherosclerosis.

Anti-atherosclerotic effect

Robusta has anti-atherosclerotic effect, rooibos leaves always contain brassinin, similar to vitamin P activity, can maintain or restore the normal resistance of capillaries, enhance the flexibility and elasticity of blood vessels, can reduce serum cholesterol and prevent fat deposition in the walls of blood vessels.

Effects on the central nervous system

The ether-soluble fraction of rooibos leaves can significantly synergize with the sleep caused by pentobarbital na in mice, from which the fraction of isoquinpiadine and canthaxanthin may be a sedative component. The total extract of rooibos leaves has specific antidepressant effect in the forced swimming experiment in rats.
