Researchers have found that mosquitoes bite pregnant women twice as often as non-pregnant women. Experts speculate that women's increased respiratory rate during pregnancy, which is 21% higher than normal, is one of the main reasons mosquitoes are attracted to them. As mosquitoes are the primary carriers of diseases such as malaria and dengue fever, pregnant women should be especially cautious in preventing mosquito bites. It is not advisable for pregnant women to use chemical mosquito repellents or harmful mosquito coils, as they may have adverse effects on the fetus. Most mosquito coils contain pyrethroid insecticides as their active ingredient. The smoke from burning mosquito coils contains fine particles and chemicals that are harmful to both pregnant women and their fetuses. Therefore, experts recommend that pregnant women use "green methods" to prevent mosquito bites.
1. Use mosquito nets or screens to keep mosquitoes out. Mosquito nets not only provide protection against mosquitoes but also act as wind barriers and filter the air, making them particularly suitable for pregnant women and children. Screens, on the other hand, allow fresh air to enter the room while keeping harmful smoke outside.
2. Place one or two pots of blooming flowers such as night-blooming jasmine, jasmine, milan, mint, or roses in the bedroom. Mosquitoes will avoid them due to their strong scent.
3. Install orange-colored light bulbs in the room or cover the bulbs with translucent orange glass paper. Mosquitoes will flee from the room due to their fear of orange light.
4. Place a bottle or cup filled with sugar water or beer in a dark corner. Mosquitoes will be attracted to the sweet smell and get stuck in the liquid, leading to their demise.
5. Consume raw garlic, which will be metabolized by the body and excreted through sweat, creating a smell that mosquitoes dislike.
6. Keep mosquito breeding grounds clean. Stagnant water and clogged drains are breeding grounds for mosquitoes, as they lay eggs in stagnant water, which quickly hatch into larvae. Therefore, clearing stagnant water from around the house and indoors can effectively prevent mosquito breeding.
7. Wear light-colored clothing, such as yellow or white. Dark-colored clothing is more prone to mosquito bites, such as dark blue, brown, or black.
8. Take regular showers to reduce body odor, making it less attractive to mosquitoes.
9. Spray some floral water on the collar, cuffs, and other areas of clothing to prevent mosquito bites.
