Preventing and Treating Lower Back Pain During Pregnancy: Causes and Measures

December 17, 2023

During pregnancy, as the fetus grows, the ligaments in the lower back and pelvic area of the pregnant woman become more relaxed. At the same time, the weight of the uterus increases with the gestational age, causing a shift in the body's center of gravity. In order to maintain balance, the lower back is often pushed forward, and if not rested properly, it can lead to lower back pain.

Causes of lower back pain during pregnancy:

After pregnancy, the fetus and its attachments, such as the placenta and amniotic fluid, increase day by day, adding to the burden on the front of the lumbar vertebrae.

In order to maintain balance, the lower back muscles of the pregnant woman must contract, causing the pelvis to tilt forward and creating a unique posture. The lower back muscles continue to contract and cannot relax, which can lead to fatigue and lower back pain over time.

Measures and methods for preventing and treating lower back pain:

① Do not stand up quickly. When standing up, use your hands to support yourself on a table or chair.

② Use a belly belt or a special maternity belt to support the lower back.

③ The correct standing posture is to slightly separate the legs, straighten the lower back, chest out, and tuck the chin in.

④ Avoid wearing high heels.
