The first prenatal check-up for pregnant women includes inquiries about family and personal medical history, measurement of baseline blood pressure, weighing, listening to the heart and lungs, gynecological examination, as well as urine and liver function tests.
2. Establish a "prenatal health card"
Once pregnancy is confirmed by a doctor, pregnant women should immediately establish a "prenatal health card" and safely go through the stages of pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum under the guidance of a doctor.
3. Calculate the expected due date
Pregnancy usually lasts for more than 9 months. During this time, the embryo transforms from a simple cell into a highly complex organism composed of millions of cells. In the entire process of human life, there is no other period of such rapid growth.
Once pregnancy is confirmed, the expected birth date can be estimated, which is medically referred to as the "due date". To calculate the due date, simply add 9 months and 1 week to the first day of the last menstrual period. For example: If the last menstrual period was on January 1st, adding 9 months gives October 1st, and then adding 1 week (7 days) gives October 8th. October 8th is the due date.
Actual delivery may occur within 2 weeks before or after the due date. For women with a menstrual cycle every 3 weeks, the duration of pregnancy should be 280 days minus 1 week, which is 39 weeks; for women with a menstrual cycle every 4 weeks, the duration of pregnancy should be 280 days, which is 40 weeks; for women with a menstrual cycle every 5 weeks, the duration of pregnancy should be 280 days plus 1 week, which is 41 weeks.
If your menstrual cycle is irregular or you cannot remember the date of your last menstrual period, you should calculate it based on gynecological examination in early pregnancy.
