March 6, 2024

  In life, we often encounter children who do not like crowded occasions, or who are unwilling to meet strangers. They become nervous, blush, and feel helpless when they meet new people. This is called social anxiety. What should we do if a child has social anxiety? Here are some methods!

  Reasons for children's social anxiety

  Social interaction is an essential activity in life. Being afraid of interacting with others is a manifestation of a child's low self-esteem.

  These children often have these problems because they are frequently criticized by their parents in their daily lives. Sometimes, they are excessively scolded or even physically punished for a small mistake;

  Sometimes, it is because their parents vent their emotions unreasonably on the child.

  In such a family, the child develops a fearful mentality.

  Effects of social anxiety disorder on children

  Children may not even be able to distinguish what to do, what to say, what is right, and what is wrong.

  Most of the time, children live in fear and anxiety. They draw the conclusion from their parents' behavior that they are incompetent, always doing things wrong, and are worthless.

  As these children grow up, they may develop varying degrees of social anxiety tendencies, and severe cases may become sufferers of social anxiety disorder.

  Having this condition, they are unable to establish stable interpersonal relationships. They become introverted, lonely, and their outlook on life becomes negative and pessimistic.

  How to alleviate social anxiety disorder

  (1) First of all, we should pay attention to and observe whether the child has a tendency towards social anxiety.

  We should examine our own behavior towards the child and correct inappropriate educational behavior as early as possible.

  (2) Secondly, when the child exhibits the symptoms mentioned above during social interactions, they should force themselves to take several deep and rhythmic breaths.

  They should think that they are equal to the other person, which can help alleviate the nervousness.

  (3) Finally, we should strengthen the child's learning in literature, music, art, and other areas. They should read extracurricular books and newspapers, and absorb knowledge from various fields;

  Having knowledge will help the child build confidence and overcome shyness.
