In the summer, babies often experience frequent diarrhea, and many parents struggle to identify the symptoms of diarrhea in their babies. They worry about the harm it may cause to their babies' bodies and also the potential side effects of medications and injections. Today, I will introduce you to the symptoms of diarrhea in babies and teach you four simple methods to deal with it without medication or injections, making it easier for you to handle your baby's diarrhea!
What are the symptoms of diarrhea in a one-year-old baby?
1. Symptoms of diarrhea in breastfed babies: Generally, they have more frequent bowel movements, up to 7-8 times a day, or even 10-12 times, and the stool is usually watery.
2. Symptoms of diarrhea caused by improper feeding: The stool contains foam, has a sour or rotten smell, and is sometimes mixed with undigested particles and mucus. It is often accompanied by vomiting and crying.
3. Symptoms of diarrhea caused by milk powder allergy: After feeding the baby with milk or formula, if the baby has persistent, non-infectious diarrhea for more than 2 weeks, the stool may contain mucus and blood streaks, accompanied by symptoms such as skin rashes, hives, and wheezing.
4. Symptoms of diarrhea caused by a cold: The baby may have a cold, cough, fever, and diarrhea.
5. Symptoms of diarrhea caused by viral or bacterial infections: The baby's stool is watery, yellow, or resembles egg drop soup, and there is a large amount of stool without pus or blood. This may indicate a rotavirus infection. If the stool contains mucus and bloody pus, bacterial enteritis should be considered, often accompanied by vomiting and fever.
What can you do if your one-year-old baby has diarrhea?
Method 1: Scraping therapy (Gua Sha)
Focus on scraping the sides of the spine, the inner side of the arm to the elbow pit, the Tian Shu acupoint, and the Zu San Li acupoint. For vomiting, focus on scraping the Nei Guan meridian acupoint. For bloating, focus on scraping the Li Nei Ting meridian acupoint. For fever, focus on scraping the He Gu and Qu Chi meridian acupoints. For severe diarrhea, focus on scraping the Yin Ling Quan meridian acupoint. The method is to gently scrape each acupoint for about 3 minutes.
Method 2: Moxibustion therapy
Apply moxibustion to the Guan Yuan, Shen Que, Tian Shu, Zhong Wan, Zu San Li, and Pi Yu acupoints using non-scarring moxibustion. Select 2-3 acupoints each time, apply moxibustion 4-5 times on each acupoint, once a day. A total of 5 treatments are considered one course, and the degree of redness on the skin after moxibustion is used as a reference. Alternatively, moxibustion can be applied to the Shen Que acupoint using the salt separation method.
Method 3: Herbal tea for children
Grind the herbal tea into a fine powder and administer orally. For children around one year old, administer 0.15 grams per dose, and for children over two years old, administer 0.2 grams per dose, three times a day. This can help clear heat and aid digestion.
Method 4: Milk tea
Take 1 gram of Yunnan green tea. Grind the green tea into a fine powder and mix it with milk in three separate doses. Take it continuously for 3-5 days. This can help clear heat, aid digestion, and stop diarrhea.
With these four methods, moms no longer need to worry about harming their babies' bodies due to diarrhea. Give them a try!
