Preventing Falls and Bumps: Ensuring Baby's Safety and Well-being

February 6, 2024

The baby's head is relatively heavy, making them prone to falling due to an unstable center of gravity. If adults are negligent, there is a high chance of the baby getting injured.

Although falls and bumps may not necessarily threaten the baby's life, if the impact force is too strong or if they hit their chest, abdomen, or head, it may cause fractures or concussions. Therefore, parents must provide the baby with a space where they can freely run around to reduce the chances of falls and bumps. Accidents caused by falls and bumps mainly include concussions, fractures, and external injuries.

Principles of handling

If the baby hits their head or if the wound is too deep, they should be taken to the hospital immediately. You can choose a nearby hospital, and if the situation is severe, transfer them to a larger comprehensive hospital for further examination, such as through computer tomography or X-ray, to confirm if there is a concussion or intracranial bleeding. If the condition of the fall or bump is not serious and only the skin is scraped, you can clean the wound yourself and keep it disinfected at all times.

Prevention methods

1. Avoid sharp objects in the baby's activity space. Install protective measures on protruding corners, table corners, and windows with sharp edges. Add soft safety corners to the legs of tables and chairs. Try to create a spacious environment for the baby to move around.

2. If there are children under 2 years old at home, it is recommended to avoid using hard materials such as marble or granite for flooring. Choose wooden floors whenever possible.
