Magnetite is the ore of the oxide mineral magnetite. Its functions include soothing the liver and suppressing yang; calming the mind and relieving fright; improving hearing and vision; and regulating qi and alleviating wheezing.
1. Genuine Magnetite

Description: Active magnets are irregular or slightly square blocks, often with edges and varying sizes. They are gray-black in color with a metallic luster, or without luster but covered with a small amount of brownish-black powder. They are heavy, hard, not easily broken, with irregular fracture surfaces, and gray-black in color. They have strong magnetism and can attract iron. They have an earthy odor and no taste. Dead magnets are irregular blocks, often with edges and varying sizes. They are reddish-brown to brown in color with a metallic luster, covered with a small amount of reddish-brown powder, and are more easily broken. The broken surface is reddish-brown to brown, often with pores and more impurities. They have extremely weak magnetism and cannot attract iron. They have an earthy odor and a rusty smell.
Preferred characteristics are dark gray color, dense fracture surface, luster, and the ability to attract iron.
2. Fake Magnetite

Description: Irregular blocks, some with less noticeable or slightly smooth edges. The surface is brownish-brown to brown in color, with a metallic luster or less pronounced, and some are smoother. They are heavy, hard, not easily broken, with granular fracture surfaces and visible yellow-white or gray-black impurity nodules. They have no magnetism and cannot attract iron. They have an earthy odor.
