Enhancing Therapeutic Efficacy: Combining Scraping Therapy with Other Methods for Perfect Results

November 28, 2023

In order to increase the efficacy and combine strengths, scraping therapy can be used in combination with other methods to achieve perfect therapeutic effects. Some commonly used techniques at home include scraping cupping, scraping massage, and scraping with topical application.

Scraping Cupping Method

Scraping is usually performed before cupping, although it can also be done after cupping. First, a suitable amount of scraping cupping oil or lotion is applied to the selected area (acupoint) of the skin. Then, a water buffalo horn scraping board is used. If combined with cupping, the scraping time should be slightly shorter, and cupping is done when the skin turns red. If combined with stationary cupping, the scraping time can be slightly longer. Once the skin turns red, purple, or dark purple, cupping is performed at the corresponding location. The cupping can be done at acupoints (including Ashi points) or at the site of the lesion (where the skin turns red, purple, or dark purple after scraping, and there are obvious hard nodules or cord-like structures under the skin. Pressing on them often causes soreness, numbness, and swelling). In my experience, cupping at the site of the lesion is particularly effective in promoting the circulation of meridians and blood, and adjusting the functions of organs and viscera.

This method is widely used for cervical spondylosis, shoulder periarthritis, lumbar disc herniation, lumbar muscle strain, sciatica, asthma, knee joint pain and limited flexion and extension, hypertension, acne, and other diseases, all of which show remarkable efficacy.

Scraping Massage Method

Scraping is combined with massage and can be divided into two methods: scraping before massage and scraping after massage. The former refers to first applying various massage techniques to the selected area (meridian acupoints) based on the condition, and then performing scraping to enhance the therapeutic effect of the massage. The latter refers to scraping (using scraping technique) until purple or black spots and subcutaneous nodules appear on the skin, and then using massage techniques on the obvious purple-black spots or nodules to promote the absorption of the scraping spots and enhance the efficacy of scraping. This method is widely used in various clinical conditions.

Scraping with Topical Application Method

Scraping is combined with the application of certain medicinal substances. There are two commonly used techniques: applying a certain medication to the treatment area before scraping, or applying medication to the scraping spots after scraping. The former is more commonly used. Commonly used medications include scraping lotion or lotion, which has the effects of clearing heat and detoxification, promoting blood circulation and resolving stasis, dredging meridians, and reducing inflammation and pain. It also protects the skin.

In addition, after scraping, medication such as orthopedic water, trauma medicine, or various ointments like dog skin plasters and musk tiger bone plasters can be applied to the skin. However, caution should be exercised as strong irritants such as Fengyoujing and Qufengyou are generally avoided in clinical practice, especially for pregnant women.

This technique is widely used for painful conditions such as lumbar disc herniation, lumbar muscle strain, sciatica, trauma, and visceral pain.
