Summer is the season with a lot of mosquitoes. It's frustrating when you finally kill one, only to find a bloodstain on your sheets. Girls have their menstrual cycle every month, and sometimes they may accidentally stain the sheets with blood. So, how do you remove blood stains from sheets effectively?
Avoid using hot water
If there is a bloodstain on the sheets, do not wash it with hot water. This is because blood contains proteins that can denature and become less soluble when exposed to heat. Therefore, it is not advisable to use hot water to clean bloodstains.
Cold water or saline solution
When you notice blood stains on your sheets, immediately wash them with cold water or a diluted saline solution. You can then use soap or a 10% potassium iodide solution to clean the stains. The longer the bloodstain remains on the sheets, the harder it is to remove.
Sulfur soap cleaning method
Regardless of whether the bloodstain is fresh or old, you can use sulfur soap to clean it effectively. Wet the stained area of the sheets with cold water and apply sulfur soap. Rub the soap vigorously several times. Sulfur soap also has disinfectant and mite-removing effects.
Ginger for blood stain removal
If there are bloodstains on your sheets, you can use sliced ginger to wipe the stained areas. Then, use a towel dipped in cold water to scrub the stains. Finally, rinse with clean water. This method can quickly remove blood stains.
Hydrogen peroxide cleaning
If the stains have been there for a long time, you can use 10% ammonia or 3% hydrogen peroxide (available at pharmacies) to wipe the stains. After a while, rinse with cold water. If the stains are still not completely removed, wash with a 10-15% oxalic acid solution, and finally rinse with clean water.
Enzyme laundry detergent for cleaning
Soak the stained area in cold water first, and then use an enzyme laundry detergent to wash. This method is very effective. If the stains are still not completely removed, you can use white radish juice or crushed carrot juice mixed with salt to wipe the blood stains. Both methods work well.
